The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Regional Volleyball Tournaments began last night.
On KILJ you heard #2 ranked Holy Trinity Catholic defeat Burlington Notre Dame 25-8, 25-8, 25-13. Mikaela Foecke had 21 kills for the Crusaders, Emily Tinguely had 34 assists, Jordon Freesmeier had 6 ace serves. HTC will now play host to Danville in the quarterfinals Tuesday Oct. 23rd, the Lady Bears swept Harmony last night 25-12, 25-6, 25-9.
#12 ranked New London swept Waco in Charles Lorber Gymnasium 25-9, 25-10, 25-10. The Lady Tigers now travel to Winfield Mt. Union Oct. 23rd to play the Lady Wolves who rolled over Harmony last night 25-1, 25-3, 25-11.
Class 2A Regional volleyball action begins tonight. Wapello plays at L&M, Wilton is at Highland, West Burlington drew a first round bye and will play Oct. 23rd at home against the winner of the Wapello vs L&M match. Van Buren plays at Cardinal of Eldon tonight.
Class 3A play begins 10/22, here are the area pairings: Mid Prairie @ Mediapolis a match you’ll hear live on KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com. Central Lee @ Columbus Community, Davis County @ Centerville, Chariton @ Albia. Winners play in the semi finals on 10/25 and those winners meet in the championship at Ottumwa on 10/30.
Class 4A the Mt. Pleasant Panthers drew a 1st round bye, they will play the winner of the Oct. 22nd Knoxville at Fairfield match on Oct. 25th at Fairfield. Washington, Clear Creek Amana and Cedar Rapids Xavier are in the bottom bracket. Semi Finals will be played 10/25 and Finals at Washington 10/30.

The Ashford University men’s golf team, matching up against 18 of the top NAIA squads in the region won the NAIA Midwest Invitational Golf Tournament. The Saints captured their third team championship of the fall with a win in the NAIA Midwest Invitational on Tuesday, totaling a final of 594 (292-302) to edge Mount Mercy by two shots.
The IWC Tiger men’s golf team competed in this tourney. The Tigers finished 18TH with a 693 team score, they were led by Blake Mitchell who finished 40th in medalist play with a 158 total.

Detroit is one win away from winning the American League Baseball Championship Series after downing the Yankees last night 2-1. The two teams play in Detroit at 7 p.m. tonight.
The National League Championship series continues today with San Francisco playing St. Louis in Busch Stadium at 3 p.m. that series is tied at one win each.

Friday night is the final night of high school football for the regular season. Here is the area schedule. Playoffs begin Wednesday Oct. 24th.
