The curtain closed on the 2012 Mt. Pleasant Panther football season Friday night in Williamsburg when the Panthers lost to the #6 ranked Raiders 35-0. The loss ends Mt. Pleasant’s playoffs hopes and the win sends Williamsburg into the playoffs as a district champion they will host Carlisle Wednesday night.
M.P. ends the year with a 2-7 overall record and 2-4 in the district. The best chances for Mt. Pleasant to get on the scoreboard were two field goal attempts by Liam Clancy, he was wide left on a 54 yard attempt just before halftime and short on a 40 yard attempt in the 2nd half. On defense Mt. Pleasant did intercept Williamsburg twice with Tony Cristoforo and Colton Aplara getting picks.
Williamsburg won the freshman game 45-0.
The rest of the playoff schedule involving 3A district #7 has Keokuk at Pella, Fairfield at Winterset and Norwalk at Washington.
Other area teams getting into Wednesday’s playoffs: Waco at Lynnville-Sully (hear the game live on KILJ-FM and, Pekin at Lisbon, Davis County at Mediapolis, L&M at Bondurant-Farrar, Burlington at Pleasant Valley.

College football today has the IWC Tigers hosting Waldorf College, Iowa State plays at Oklahoma St. on KILJ-AM 1130 beginning at 9 a.m. Penn St. at Iowa on KILJ-FM at 5 p.m.

San Francisco beat the Cardinals 5-0, Redbirds still lead the series 3-2, game six will be played in San Fran Sunday.
