Class 5A, 4A and3A regional tournament volleyball play began last night.
Class 4A Quarter Finals
At Fairfield
Fairfield 18-25-25-24-15, Knoxville 25-16-14-26-9, The Mt. Pleasant Panthers who drew a first round bye will play the Lady Trojans on their home court Thursday in the semi finals.
At Tiffin
Clear Creek-Amana 25-25-25, Washington 21-14-15
At Keokuk
Fort Madison 25-25-26-25, Keokuk 27-14-24-19, Ft. Madison plays at North Scott Thursday in the semifinals.

Class 3A Quarter Finals
At Mediapolis
#1 ranked Mediapolis 25-25-25, Mid-Prairie 12-9-3
Heidi Hillyard had 10 killjs, Aubrey Siegel 33 assists, Abby Eberhardt 9 ace serves, Haley Hillyard had 4 blocks, Rachel Holsteen 12 digs. Mid Prairie ends the year 6-29, Mediapolis (40-0) advances to Thursday nights semi finals at home against Central Lee who won 3-1 over Columbus Community. KILJ-FM 105.5 and will carry the match live beginning at 7 p.m.

Burlington had a first round bye in class 5A and will play host to Ottumwa Thursday in the semifinals.

Class 1A second round action will play tonight, KILJ-FM 105.5 and will bring you live coverage of the Danville at Holy Trinity Catholic match with score updates on the New London at Winfield Mt. Union quarterfinal.
Class 2A Regional volleyball tonight, area matches has Van Buren playing Pekin at Cardinal, Wapello will play at West Burlington and Highland will play at Durant.
Class 4A the Mt. Pleasant Panthers drew a 1st round bye, they play Fairfield Thursday at Fairfield after the Trojans defeated Knoxville 3-2 in first round play Monday night. Clear Creek Amana and Cedar Rapids Xavier play each other in the bottom bracket. Finals will be at Washington 10/30.

The latest high school football poll from the Associated Press and Radio Iowa HAS Ankeny ranked #1 in class 4A, Decorah in class 3A, Boyden hull is #1 in class 2A in the A.P. poll, Radio Iowa has the two schools tied for the top spot. In class 1A Iowa City Regina is #1 and in class “A” Woodward Granger, Newell Fonda is top ranked in 8 man football.

San Francisco beat the St. Louis Cardinals last night 9-0 to capture the national League Championship Series. Now the Giants host Detroit tomorrow night in the first game of the 2012 World Series.

Nate Kaeding former Iowa Hawkeye place kicker has been placed on injured reserve by the San Diego Chargers because of a leg injury he suffered several weeks ago. He will be released by the Chargers when he is healthy. Nick Novak has replaced him. Kaeding is the most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history making 180 of 207 kicks, all though he is most remembered by Charger fans as the kicker that missed 3 field goals in their last playoff game in 2010.
Monday night football last night saw the Bears beat the Lions 13-7.
