Winfield Mt. Union knocked 12th ranked New London out of the class 1-A volleyball regional tournament trail Tuesday night in Winfield with a 3 games to 2 win over the Tigers. WMU won the first two games 25-20 and 25-22, then New London came storming back and won games 3 and 4 26-24 and 25-17. In the first to 15 fifth game WMU pulled out a 15-11 win to advance onto the semi finals at Sigourney Friday night against the host school who beat Twin Cedars 3-2. Shelby Therme led WMU to the win with 22 kills, Erica Robinson had 18. New London was led by Koral Crossett with 24 and Emily Parks with 17.
#2 ranked Holy Trinity Catholic defeated Danville in Shottenkirk Gym in a 3 game sweep 25-16, 25-9, 25-19. Mikaela Foecke had 23 kills and 8 blocks. Danville was led by Kayla Spear with 12 kills and 1 block.
HTC goes to Moulton Friday night to play Moravia in the semi finals, Moravia beat Seymour in 3 games.
In class 2A volleyball Wapello beat West Burlington 3-2 and Durant won over Highland 3-0. Wapello plays at Durant Friday in the semi finals. Tipton plays at West Branch in the other semi.

The Mt. Pleasant Panthers volleyball team who drew a first round bye in 4A Regional action will play the Lady Trojans of Fairfield on their home court Thursday in the semi finals.
Clear Creek-Amana will tangle with Cedar Rapids Xavier on the Saints home court. The winners play October 30th in Washington in the Regional final.
Ft. Madison plays at North Scott. Davenport North plays Maquoketa, the winners will meet October 30th at DeWitt Central.

Class 3A regional action has Mediapolis (40-0) in Thursday night’s semi finals at home against Central Lee . KILJ-FM 105.5 and will carry the match live beginning at 7 p.m.
Davis County plays Albia at Centerville in the other semi. The winners play October 30th at Ottumwa.

Burlington had a first round bye in class 5A and will play host to Ottumwa Thursday in the semifinals.

The Waco Warriors travel to Lynnville Sully High School to play the Hawks in the first round of the class “A” football playoffs that is a rematch of last years first round game that the Hawks won over Waco by a score of 54-14. Waco is 6-3 and Lynnville Sully brings a 7-2 record into tonight’s game. Their loses were to Pella Christian and Pekin. The two teams had a common opponent, North Mahaska. Waco beat them 40-14 and the Hawks won 49-0. Ben Fear quarterbacks Waco’s offense and has thrown 5 touchdown passes, Tylar Ayers has caught 12 of those passes, 2 for touchdowns. Ayers also leads the rushing with 1171 yards and 12 touchdowns. Skyler Miller and Klinton Garrett lead the defense. Lynnville Sully’s quarterback is Cale Van Wyk who has tossed 10 touchdown passes. Nathan Russell has caught 5 of them. Bailee Samson is their leading rusher with 1,028 yards and 12 scores. KILJ-FM 105.5 and will carry the game live beginning at 6:45 p.m. tonight.
The high school football playoff schedule involving 3A district #7 teams has Carlisle at Williamsburg, Keokuk at Pella, Fairfield at Winterset and Norwalk at Washington.
Other area teams in Wednesday’s playoffs: Pekin is at Lisbon, Davis County at Mediapolis, L&M at Bondurant-Farrar, Burlington at Pleasant Valley.

The 2012 World Series gets started tonight in San Francisco when the Giants host the Detroit Tigers. First pitch will be around 7:10 p.m. tonight. Game two is in San Fran tomorrow night, series goes to Detroit on Saturday night.
