The #1 ranked Mediapolis volleyball team made a luncheon date in Cedar Rapids for Thursday November 8th at noon in the Ice Arena with Iowa Falls-Alden. No they won’t be setting down to white table cloths and cloth napkins, the Bullettes will be battling the Cadets in the Class 3A first round State volleyball action. Mediapolis overcame a sluggish start in game one where they trailed by five points twice to sweep Davis County 25-21, 25-15, 25-14 and qualify for state for the sixth time. Rachel Holsteen had 14 kills and 17 digs, Aubrey Siegel 42 assists and 2 ace serves, Haley Hillyard had 4 blocks.
Mediapolis goes into the State Tournament undefeated at 42-0, their first round opponent Iowa Falls-Alden is 32-4, they beat Bondurant-Farrar 3 games to 1. Other state tournament qualifiers in 3A include: LaPorte City Union, Sioux Center, Mt. Vernon, Davenport Assumption, Red Oak and M.O.C. Floyd Valley.
In 5A Regional final action Iowa City City High swept Burlington 25-13, 25-13, 25-20, Burlington ends the year 5-20.
Cedar Rapids Xavier swept Fairfield in 4A Regional final action at Washington 25-21, 25-13, 25-15.
Class 1A Regional final action is tonight in Mt. Pleasant Panther Gymnasium at 7 p.m. WMU has a record of 28-7 will tangle at 7 p.m. against #2 ranked Holy Trinity Catholic who is 42-4. The Lady Wolves are on a 6 match winning streak while HTC has won 5 matches in a row. WMU has not been to the state volleyball tournament since 1997, Holy Trinity is looking to go to state for the 6th time since the school was established in 2005. KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry the match live beginning at 7 p.m.

Mediapolis continues to roll through the Class 2A football playoffs, they beat West Liberty 42-6 Monday night. Mediapolis quarterback Jesse Ertz threw five touchdown passes in the game and that tied the record of 93 touchdown passes in a career held by former Keokuk High School and now Iowa quarterback James Vandenberg.
Bondurant Farrar who won last night 33-0 over Mid Prairie is the next opponent for the Bulldogs, they will host the Blue Jays Friday night on Archer field in Mediapolis where they have won 19 of their last 20 games.

The Mt. Pleasant Middle School 8th grade girls basketball team played Tuesday at Keokuk

The Middle School 7th grade boys basketball hosted Keokuk and won the “A” game 60-25, Jordon Magnani had 17 points, Brady Sartorius 12 and Colin Mulford 10. “b” team won 20-6 with Nick Steffens scoring 10 points. “C” team tied 12-12 and Cole Smith scored 6 points.

The Iowa Wesleyan men’s and women’s basketball teams are ready for a big year. Both teams will be playing to get into the USCAA National tournament this winter.
Before kicking off the season, the Tigers’ basketball teams would like to invite the community to Ruble Arena on the Iowa Wesleyan campus to meet and greet this year’s teams. The event will be held on Friday, October 26 from 6:30pm-7:30pm.
The men’s team is coached by Jess Settles, who is in his second year at the helm for the Tigers. Settles coached the Tigers to a 12-14 record last season. The Tigers averaged 74.5 points per game last season, shooting 45.8% from the field. They also averaged 16.5 assists, 8.0 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game under Settles’ guidance last season.
The women’s team is coached by Steve Williamson, who begins his ninth year with the program. Williamson has transformed the program since taking over. Prior to Williamson taking the helm, the Tigers suffered 19 losing season. Williamson has built the program into a national contender as he owns a 165-88 record with the Tigers, recording the second most wins in school history after legendary coach Olan Ruble, who won 274 games from 1943-65.
The men’s team will open up their season on November 3 as they host Benedictine University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm at Ruble Arena.
The women’s basketball team will open up their season on November 2-3 as they travel to Des Moines, Iowa for the Grandview University Classic.
