Pekin won the girl’s division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference Cross Country Meet Thursday at Wapello. The Panthers scored 32, Mediapolis was 2nd with 78, Danville-New London finished 7th with a 193 score. The individual winner was Gwynne Wright of Pekin in 14:27, Cassie Stufflick of Danville-New London was 2nd in 15:21.
Highland won the boy’s division with a 50 score, Mediapolis was 2nd with 83 points, Danville-New London was 7th 213, WMU was 9th scoring 219.
Dillon Timmerman of Mediapolis was the individual champ in 16:16, Ben Polley of Wapello was 2nd in 16:32.

In area volleyball scores from Thursday night: #1 ranked Mediapolis swept Wapello 3-0 they have a 30-0 record and 9-0 conference record. Mepo has won 45 straight divisional matches covering 135 games dating back to the beginning of the 2008 season. Central Lee won 3-0 over Burlington Notre Dame, #12 ranked New London won over West Burlington 3-1, Danville swept Maharishi 3-0 and Winfield Mt. Union won in 3 over Waco. Cardinal swept Harmony, IMS beat Columbus Community 3-2.
The latest volleyball team rankings from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has Mediapolis #1 in class 3A, Holy Trinity Catholic hold the #2 ranking in class 1A behind Grundy Center, New London in 12th in 1A. Fairfield is ranked #11 in class 4A.

The MPHS Panther football team had their two game win streak stopped at home last Friday night by the previously winless Fairfield Trojans. This week M.P. goes on the road to play their arch rival Washington Demons who have a record of 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the district. The Panthers are now 2-4 overall and 1-2 in district action.
The MPHS offense still depends on the air game to move the ball. Connor Shull has thrown for 761 yards with 4 td’s anf 6 interceptions. Dalton Conrad has caught 22 passes for 417 yds. and 2 td’s Josh Larson leads the rushing game with 64 carries 196 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Defensively Carson Redmick leads in tackling with 69. Dalton Conrad has 2 interceptions, Josh Larson has 2 fumble recoveries.
KILJ-FM 105.5 and will carry the game live beginning with the pregame at 6:30 p.m.

The Post Season for Major League Baseball gets started today. In National League Wild Card action it will be St. Louis playing at Atlanta, the winner plays host Sunday to Washington. In the American league Wild Card Baltimore is at Texas, the winner plays host to the Yankees Sunday.
