The Washington High School Junior varsity football team came to Mt. Pleasant last night and defeated the Panthers 39-0.
The latest high school football rankings shows the Mediapolis Bulldogs ranked #2 in class 2A, Mepo is undefeated at 7-0 and will be hosting Columbus Community this Friday night. Boyden Hull is the team ranked ahead of Mediapolis. Pekin is ranked 10th in class “A” to be the only other Southeast Iowa ranked team. Class 4A is topped by Ankeny, Class 3# has Decorah as their #1, class “A” has Woodward granger #1 and 8 man football is led by Newell-Fonda.
The Mt. Pleasant Middle School 7th grade football team tangled with Ottumwa Monday. In the “A” game the two teams tied at 6-6. Quarterback Brady Sartorius scored the Panther touchdown. Jordon Magnani led the rushing with 76 yards and receiving as he caught 3 passes for 62 yards. Defensively Magnani recovered 2 fumbles, and Tanner Ruby 1. Kieran Kohorst, Jake lowe and Isaac Kuster were the top tacklers.
In the “B” game Mt. Pleasant won 22-20. Joe Coberly had 2 touchdowns, Keegan Rich scored 1. Rich led the rushing with 40 yards and the passing going 7 of 12 for 127 yards. Coberly caught 5 passes for 120 yards. Jermaine Miles had a fumble recovery. Cole Burns, Jon Lopez and Wyatt Carlston led the tackling.

Area volleyball last night: 12th ranked New London wrapped up their regular season with the sweep of a triangular. Tigers beat Harmony and Maharishi. Harmony swept Maharishi also. Davenport North defeated Burlington 3 games to 1.

The St. Louis Cardinals bounced back from a game one loss to Washington on Sunday to beat the Nationals 12-4 yesterday in St. Louis. The series moves now to Washington for a noon game on Wednesday.
In the other National League Divisional Series, Cincinnati plays host to San Francisco with the Reds leading 2 games to none.
In the American League, Baltimore beat the Yankees 3-2, that series is tied at one game apiece and will move to New York for the next game Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m.
Tonight Detroit plays at Oakland with the Tigers leading that series 2 games to none.
A four-person, best shot golf tournament to raise funds for United Way of Henry County will be held Friday, Oct. 12, at Deerwood Golf Course, New London.
Money raised will help pay for the 2013 budget to aid helping organizations throughout the county. The fee is $60 per person, and golfers will receive use of a golf course as well as a light meal of brats, chips and soda.
There will be a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. Entries are limited to the first 72 golfers to register.
