Finally a Winner for District 42

According to the Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz, the winner of the State Senate District 42 seat has finally been determined.  There had been a delay in results due to higher than expected numbers at polling places in Lee County; causing election officials to print off ballots.  The problem was that these ballots could not be read in the election machines so the ballots had to be hand-counted.

After all is said and done, the seat will go to Democrat Rich Taylor of Mt. Pleasant.  It is because of Lee County that Taylor will go to Des Moines as his opponent Republican Larry Kruse won Henry, Jefferson and Washington counties.  According to unofficial reports from the Secretary of State website, Taylor received 13,888 votes, that’s 50.5% compared to Kruse who received 12,269 votes or 44.6%.  The third candidate Independent Mike Garmoe received 1340 votes or 4.9%.
