Ninth ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie improved their record to 1-1 as they handed the Mt. Pleasant panther girls basketball team their second loss of the season Friday night in Cedar Rapids by a score of 58-26. No Panthers reached double figure scoring as M.P. struggled with ball handling and offense once again. Leading the way offensively was Taryne Shull with 9 points. It was the second game in a row that Mt. Pleasant played a ranked class 5A opponent. This Friday night MPHS will go to Fairfield to begin Southeast Conference play.
Kyle Warner (Sr.-Gresham, Ore.) had another big weekend for the Tigers as he led Iowa Wesleyan at the Carthage College Classic on Thanksgiving Weekend in Kenosha, Wis. His play in the tournament landed him on the Carthage Classic All-Tournament Team.
Warner averaged an impressive 17.0 points per game on 11-of-19 shooting in the two games the Tigers played. He was 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Warner also averaged 7.5 rebounds per game in the tournament.
Warner’s play wasn’t quite enough to help the Tigers pull out a win, though, as the Tigers lost both games. On Friday, the Tigers fell to host Carthage College 85-73. The Tigers then took on Aurora University on Saturday in the Carthage Classic consolation game. The Tigers fell to Aurora 88-82, despite having four Tigers in double figures, led by Warner’s 19 points.
The Tiger women and men return to basketball action tonight as they host the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm and will be followed by the men’s game at 7:30pm.
The State Wrestling Championship has been a sold out event for over 20 years and is the only IHSAA reserved ticket event. On November 19, 2011, the Board of Control of the Iowa High School Athletic Association adopted changes for the State Wrestling Tournament finals ticket distribution. Tickets are no longer purchased from and distributed by the IHSAA. Member schools – who host wrestling programs, and the general public – now purchase their tickets through either a walk up process, or online.
Under this ticketing system, schools have the first opportunity to purchase tickets. Ticket sales to member high schools will begin Monday, December 3, 2012 at noon (12:00pm) and close Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 11:59pm. The order limit is a maximum of fifty (50) tickets per school. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 10:00am. The public will be able to purchase tickets at the Wells Fargo Arena ticket office, any Dahl’s store, online at www.dahlstickets.com or by calling 1-866-55-DAHLS. The order limit will be eight (8) tickets.
The ticket price is $8.00 per ticket, plus a convenience fee of $2.60 per ticket. There will be a $4.00 handling fee per order. A valid credit card will be needed to make an online purchase. The Wells Fargo Arena seating chart will be available identifying class 1A, 2A, and 3A mats. All seats will be assigned in the order the transactions are processed either at a ticketing location or online.
Anyone with questions or experiencing difficulties ordering tickets should call the Iowa Events Center ticket office at 515-564-8356. Anyone needing assistance with ADA seating should call 515-564-8351.
