The Mt Pleasant Panther Boys opened season play last night, and came on strong in the first half against Cedar Rapids Xavier – but fell short of the win. Mt Pleasant was up 26-18 going into halftime, but Xavier poured it on in the second half, and outscored the Panthers by 20 points – for a 60-48 win. Dalton Conrad led Mt Pleasant with 17 points. Next up, the Panthers Boys host Fairfield Friday night.
Other area boys basketball last night had Highland topping Harmony 63-28, and Mediapolis fell to West Branch 73-46.
Girls basketball last night saw Harmony fall to Highland 59-11, Lone Tree topped Danville 56-51, and Holy Trinity fell to Davis County 52-41.
The Mt Pleasant 8th Grade Girls Basketball Team hosted Ottumwa last night. Mt Pleasant won both the A and B games. In the “A”game:
Mt Pleasant topped Ottumwa 31-22. Bailey Johnson led the Panthers with 14 points. The A team is now 3 & 3.
In the “B” game, it was Mt Pleasant winning 36-6. Lauren Stewart had 12 points for the Panther B team, who are now also 3 & 3.
The Iowa Wesleyan College Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams hosted the Culver Stockton College Wildcats last night in Ruble Arena, and the Wildcats proved to be wild.
In the Women’s contest, IWC and Culver Stockton were tied at halftime, 36-36. But the Wildcats came out strong in the second half as they went on to win over the Tigers, 59-62.
Danielle Des Jardins (Sr.-Peoria, Ill.) led the Tigers with 17 points.
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow night at 7, as they host Simpson College.
The Tiger Men couldn’t overcome the Wildcats’ hot shooting and athleticism, and fell to Culver Stockton 64-80. With the loss, IWC falls below .500 on the season. The Tigers were once again led by Kyle Warner who had a team-high 17 points. Jon Umoren and Bruce Brooks each added 10 points for the Tigers.
The Tiger Men travel to Central College Saturday, to take on the Dutch – who are currently undefeated at 4-0. Tip-off is set for 3:00pm in Pella, Iowa.
The 2012 All District Football Teams have been announced. The Mt Pleasant Panthers had 5 players named for 1st Team honors, including seniors Dalton Conrad, Alex O’ Donnell, Connor Shull, and Emmett Wester… along with junior Carson Remick.
Honorable Mention for the Panthers went to senior Justin Dunn, and junior Justin Dilks.
Washington, Fairfield, Ft Madison, Keokuk, Centerville, and Williamsburg were also well represented in the district. See the full list below.
