Holy Trinity Catholic has qualified for the State Volleyball Championships once again. The Crusaders swept Winfield Mt. Union 3-0 in Mt. Pleasant last night winning 25-11, 25-16, 25-15. HTC now 43-4 for the year will play at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena in first round State Tournament action at 7:30 p.m. against Marquette Catholic of Bellevue they have a record of 29-5. Mikaela Foecke led Holy Trinity with 26 kills and 2 blocks, Emily Tinguely had 36 assists and 4 ace serves, Amanda Welding came up with 13 digs.
For Winfield Mt. Union Shelby Therme had 9 klills, Katie Benson 14 assists, Emily Mathews picked up 2 blocks, Alicia Escher had 14 dugs. Winfield Mt. Union ends the season 28-8.
Other teams that qualified for the 1A State Tournament field, Stanton, Janesville, Grandview park Baptist, Grundy Center, LeMars Gehlen, and Tripoli.

The 19th annual Southeast Iowa Volleyball Classic will be played at Fairfield High School Saturday night November 3rd at 7 p.m. The top high school senior volleyball players from around S.E. Iowa make up the all star teams. Selected to play from Mt. Pleasant were: Kathryn Chabal and Elinor Krieger-Coble. Winfield Mt. Union players Anna Crawford, Katie Benson and Alicia Escher. New London players Caitlin Chiri and Koral Crossett. The Mediapolis and Holy Trinity players selected will not be participating because of qualifying for the state tournament. The Iowa High School Athletic Association has announced their wrestling tournament host sites for the 2013 Sectionals and Districts. Mt. Pleasant will host a 3A District on Saturday February 9th with the following schools competing with the Panthers: Burlington, Ft. Madison, Iowa City City High, Iowa City West, Keokuk, Oskaloosa and Ottumwa. The top two place finishers will advance to state.
Class 2A Sectional action will be February 2nd at Mediapolis. Joining the Bulldogs will be: Columbus Community, Fairfield, New London-Winfield Mt. Union, Washington and West Burlington-Notre Dame. The top two place finishers advance onto the District at West Liberty on February 9th.
The Class 1A sectional is February 2nd at Marengo Iowa Valley with: North English, Highland, Lone Tree, Iowa City Regina, Waco and West Branch. The two place finishers advance onto the District at Tipton on February 9th.

Mediapolis continues to roll through the Class 2A football playoffs, they beat West Liberty 42-6 Monday night. Mediapolis quarterback Jesse Ertz threw five touchdown passes in the game and that tied the record of 93 touchdown passes in a career held by former Keokuk High School and now Iowa quarterback James Vandenberg.
Bondurant Farrar who won last night 33-0 over Mid Prairie is the next opponent for the Bulldogs, they will host the Blue Jays Friday night on Archer field in Mediapolis where they have won 19 of their last 20 games.

The Iowa Wesleyan men’s and women’s basketball teams are ready for a big year. Both teams will be playing to get into the USCAA National tournament this winter.
Before kicking off the season, the Tigers’ basketball teams would like to invite the community to Ruble Arena on the Iowa Wesleyan campus to meet and greet this year’s teams. The event will be held on Friday, October 26 from 6:30pm-7:30pm.
The men’s team is coached by Jess Settles, who is in his second year at the helm for the Tigers. Settles coached the Tigers to a 12-14 record last season. The Tigers averaged 74.5 points per game last season, shooting 45.8% from the field. They also averaged 16.5 assists, 8.0 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game under Settles’ guidance last season.
The women’s team is coached by Steve Williamson, who begins his ninth year with the program. Williamson has transformed the program since taking over. Prior to Williamson taking the helm, the Tigers suffered 19 losing season. Williamson has built the program into a national contender as he owns a 165-88 record with the Tigers, recording the second most wins in school history after legendary coach Olan Ruble, who won 274 games from 1943-65.
The men’s team will open up their season on November 3 as they host Benedictine University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm at Ruble Arena.
The women’s basketball team will open up their season on November 2-3 as they travel to Des Moines, Iowa for the Grandview University Classic.
