Mediapolis will always wonder what if. What if all state quarterback Jesse Ertz had played in the class 2A football championship game against Spirit Lake in which Mepo lost 17-15. Ertz sat out with a knee injury and watched as Spirit Lake came from behind in the second half to win the game that was plagued by turnovers by both teams. Mediapolis suffered three interceptions from backup quarterback Drew Foster who threw for 220 yards on 15 of 31 passing. Spirit Lake lost 4 fumbles and an interception. Mediapolis ends the year 13-1 and have their best finish ever in the playoffs. Spirit Lake who was runner up last year to Iowa City Regina also ends the year 13-1.
Iowa City Regina won the class 1A championship 35-14 over Council Bluffs St. Alberts and Ankeny defeated Cedar Rapids Xavier 23-17 in the 5A title game.

In high school girl’s basketball Friday night: Winfield Mt. Union rolled over Pekin 50-39, L&M edged Waco 50-43, Burlington Notre Dame 65 Danville 33, Iowa City High over Burlington 60-24, West Burlington beat Harmony 50-17, Wapello 48 IMS 21, Columbus Community 51 Lone Tree 35.
The IGHSAU has released their first girls basketball poll of the season. In class 3A Mediapolis is ranked 5th and Central Lee 8th. Burlington Notre Dame is #3 in class 1A.
Washington is ranked 10th in class 4A.

Adams State University defeated the Iowa Wesleyan College Tiger men 87-79 Friday night
in the Alamosa Tourism & Bankers Classic in Alamosa, Colorado.
IWC’s Kyle Warner led all players with an impressive 31 points. He hit on 5 of 9 3-point attempts and scored 14 more points from the free throw line on 19 attempts. John Umoren scored 17 of his 21 points from the free throw line as well. He also dished out seven assists.
IWC, will wrap up their trip in Colorado with what will be the fourth game in five days this afternoon at 3 p.m. when they face New Mexico Highlands University (0-0).

The IWC women play at Monmouth College today.

KILJ-FM will bring you the Iowa Hawkeyes against Gardner Web in college basketball tonight at 6 p.m.
KILJ-FM will have Hawkeye football at Michigan beginning at 10 a.m. and KILJ-AM 1130 will bring Iowa State vs Kansas at 4 p.m.
