The Iowa Wesleyan College Tiger women’s basketball team hosted the South Australian under 20 Club on Wednesday night at Ruble Arena in Mount Pleasant. It was a unique opportunity to play against international competition, and the two teams battled hard. In the end, the visitors came out on top, defeating the Tigers 55-53.
The visiting Aussies made themselves at home from beyond the arc as they hit 12 three-point shots in the game.
Jana Meister (Jr.-Ashkum, Ill.) led the Tigers once again as she led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting. She was a perfect 5-for-5 from the line.
Ashley Kruse (Sr.-Lakefield, Minn.) recorded a double-double for the Tigers as she had 13 points (5-of-9 shooting) and 10 rebounds, including six offensive boards.
Afterwards, the teams shared a meal together and got a chance to interact. This experience for the current Tigers comes on the week of the 50th anniversary of when the Tigers women’s basketball team hosted the Russian Olympic basketball team back on Nov. 19, 1962.
The Tigers return to action on Monday, Nov. 26 as they host the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm and will be followed by the men’s game at 7:30pm.
