The IWC women’s basketball team opened their season in Des Moines at the Grandview Tournament Friday night and lost in the opening round to the host school 8th ranked Grandview 79-37. Michelle Price had 8 points to lead Wesleyan. The Lady Tigers play Mt. Mercy today in Des Moines.
The IWC men’s team will open up their season tonight at home as they host Benedictine University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm at Ruble Arena.

Former Mt. Pleasant Panther Nick Lyon led the Southeastern Community College Blackhawks to a 93-67 win over Culver Stockton College JV with 14 points and 12 rebounds. The Blackhawks play today at home against Iowa Central at 5 p.m.

Mediapolis rolled to another big win in the Class 2A football playoffs. Friday night they beat Bondurant- Farrar 48-14 in the quarterfinals played on the Bulldogs home field. Quarterback Jesse Ertz went down with a possible knee injury in the first half as he was making a cut in the open field. He did return after setting out a short time and led his team to 3 more first half touchdowns. Ertz is expected to be available for their next game at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls for a semi final game Saturday November 10th at 7 P.M. against Dyersville Beckman who has a record of 11-1. Spirit Lake and Carroll Kuemper are the other semi finalists.

Three MPHS runners Tommy Thorne, Brach Prough, and Drew Perry will be competing in the Senior All-Star Meet at Des Moines Area Community College this today. Logan Murray, 8th grade state champion runner will be racing in the open race as well.

The 19th annual Southeast Iowa Volleyball Classic will be played at Fairfield High School tonight at 7 p.m. The top high school senior volleyball players from around S.E. Iowa make up the all star teams.

Football today on the college scene has the IWC Tigers playing at Grandview, Iowa State hosts Oklahoma on KILJ-AM 1130 beginning at 9 a.m. Iowa plays at Indiana on KILJ-FM beginning at 12:30.

The Quincy University men’s basketball team will be playing an exhibition game tomorrow in Carver Hawkeye Arena against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Former Mt. Pleasant Panther Scott Hahn is starting for the Quincy Hawks. In an exhibition game against Notre Dame on the road that they lost 111-52, Hahn played 21 minutes, scored 8 points. He’s expected to start again this Sunday against the Hawkeyes in a game you will hear on KILJ-FM 105.5 beginning with the pregame show at 12 noon.

Holy Trinity Catholic will be selling advance tickets to the November 8th State Volleyball Tournament match against Marquette Catholic of Bellevue beginning Monday November 5th from 8 a.m. till 3:30 p.m. at the school. Tickets are $8 each for students and adults.

Monday November 5th a “Meet and Greet” will be held at the “Club” in West Point. A pork loin sandwich supper will be served for a free will offering. The volleyball team will be there so you can get pictures and autographs. State tournament tickets will also be available for purchase then. The event will run from 5:30-8 p.m.
