FM Prison Guard Sues the Prison for Discrimination

Written by on January 7, 2013 in News

Here is a local story that has received statewide media attention.  According to one prison guard, administrators let offenders at one of the state’s most dangerous prisons watch movies and television shows that are both sexually explicit and violent.  The maximum security prison in Fort Madison houses murderers, sexual predators and others in the unit for mentally ill inmates.  Correctional Officer Kristine Sink had complained previously to administrators but she felt nothing was done about the situation.  When she shut off the programming, they told her she was being insubordinate.  One blamed her for causing problems and other said her standard issue outfit was enticing inmates.  Sink believes that the movies caused inmates to become sexually aggressive and has had enough.  She has filed a suit against prison officials alleging sexual harassment, discrimination and workplace retaliation and is seeking damages for an unspecified amount.  We will see how it all shakes out in court.  Stay tuned to KILJ, we will keep you posted.
