Iowa DNR Tax Filing Donation Options

Written by on January 27, 2013 in News

More than 8000 Iowa taxpayers donated to the Fish and Wildlife Fund on their tax form.  This is the second year in a row that donations have increase.  The hope is that 2013 will make that the third year in a row.  Stephanie Shepherd of Iowa DNR says that the donations go directly to research and habitat development and the funds are very important for natural resources.  Iowans donated $132,000 last spring when completing their 2011 tax forms.  The Chickadee Check-Off, as it’s known, had a ten year decline which was attributed to an increase in electronic filing as it can be easy to pass over and many tax preparers don’t remember to ask.  Donating is simple: writing the amount next to the Fish and Wildlife Check-Off and it will be deducted from the refund.  All charitable contributions are deductible from next year’s taxes.  DNR’s goal is for a 10% increase this year.
