At the Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission Board Meeting yesterday the 12th annual LeRoy Meyer Award was presented to long-time Wayland resident Robert Meyer. This is award is presented each year to recognize non-elected individuals who have made volunteer, community development contributions to their community. The city of Wayland nominated Meyer because he has been a longtime supporter of the city and the county and is the acting Secretary/Treasurer of the Wayland Economic Development Group and is a chartered member. Mere is a WACO graduate, lives in Wayland with his wife Karen. He has been in the banking business for more than 30 years, serving as President and Board Member of Wayland State Bank. He is a member of the Mt. Pleasant Area Development Corporation, WACO Community School Foundation, Wayland Economic Development Corporation Revolving Fund, chairman for the Henry County Revolving Loan Fund, Enhance Henry County Foundation and Henry County Board of Directors. He is also an active member of the Wayland Lions Club and Sugar Creek Mennonite Church. He was instrumental in recruiting new businesses to the Wayland Industrial Park and services to the Wayland Medical Center through a partnership. Mayer is related to the late LeRoy Meyer.
