The Holiday break is coming to an end for area high school athletic teams with The MPHS bowling teams being in action yesterday and a rather busy schedule tonight for area teams.
The Mt. Pleasant High School girl’s bowling team beat West Central Illinois 2959 to 2591, Steph Ford rolled a 553 to lead the Panthers to the win. The Panther boy’s bowling team fell to West Central 3451 to 3225. High roller for M.P. was Dustin Higginbotham with a 586. The Mt. Pleasant Panther wrestling team that has lost only one dual meet this season will tonight be hosting class 2A power the undefeated Mediapolis Bulldogs who are ranked #3 in the latest wrestling rankings. Both teams have wrestlers that are ranked and place winners returning from last year’s state wrestling tournament, action begins with JV matches at 6:30 p.m. Next action for the MPHS wrestlers is Saturday at the Linn-Mar Duals Tournament.
OTHER AREA WRESTLING ACTION: North Scott @ Burlington. Columbus Community and Muscatine @ New London/Winfield Mt. Union. Fairfield and Mid Prairie will wrestle at Keokuk. Iowa City Regina, Lone Tree and West Branch @ Waco. Wapello wrestles at Highland and Washington grapples at Ft. Madison.
AREA GIRLS BASKETBALL GAMES: Central Lee @ Holy Trinity Catholic (girls and boys games), IMS @ Mediapolis, Winfield Mt. Union @ Columbus.

The 22nd ranked Louisville Cardinal football team shook up the college football world last night when they won the Sugar bowl game in New Orleans against 4th ranked Florida 33-23.
Tonight it’s the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona with Oregon tangling with Kansas State.

Greg Lansings Indiana State team downed UNI in Men’s college basketball in Cedar Falls last night 65-61, Seth Tuttle scored 24 points to lead UNI. An upset took place in Big Ten Conference men’s basketball last night as Purdue won their 3rd game in a row by beating #11 Illinois 68-61.
In the Big Ten women’s basketball tonight Ohio State plays at Iowa.
The Iowa State Cyclone women beat Texas 73-65 in overtime last night in Ames.

Tomorrow night the MPHS boy’s basketball team will play at Washington KILJ-FM will carry the game live while the girl’s teams of the two schools play in Panther Gymnasium we will give score updates on that action.
Saturday the Iowa Wesleyan College women 4-12 host Viterbo at 1 p.m. KILJ-FM will carry the game live, then we will bring you the Central Lee vs MPHS boy’s basketball game from Panther Gymnasium at 4:30 p.m.
The Iowa Wesleyan College men are off till January 12th when they play at Mt. Mercy College. On January 16th they will host AIB of Des Moines in a women and men’s double header that KILJ-FM will broadcast live.
