The MPHS bowling teams tangled with Keokuk yesterday and swept both the girls and boys matches. M.P. won the girls dual 2597 to 2474 over the Lady Chiefs. Tasha Glover rolled a 383 to lead M.P.
The Panther boy’s bowlers beat the Chiefs 2992-2775, high roller for the Panthers was Brock Palar with a 480 series.
Ottumwa will host Mt. Pleasant Thursday in bowling.
The defending state champion Mt. Pleasant Panther boy’s basketball team has been assigned to substate #5 for the upcoming tournament trail. They are in a field with Clear Creek-Amana, Solon, Williamsburg, Fairfield, Ft. Madison, Keokuk, and Washington.
Mt. Pleasant who still hangs on to the #10 ranking in the Associated Press Poll after losing to Centerville last Tuesday, is traveling to Muscatine tonight for boy’s nonconference basketball action. The Panthers are 8-3 overall, Muscatine is 2-9. Mt. Pleasant has 3 common opponents with Muscatine, C.R. Prairie who beat Muscatine 74-48 and M.P. beat 72-42. Washington who Muscatine beat 57-47 and the Panthers beat 65-38. The final one was Keokuk who beat Muscatine 57-45 and Mt. Pleasant defeated 74-57. Muscatine’s other win was against Burlington 45-39. KILJ-FM and kilj.com will broadcast the varsity game live beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The MPHS girls basketball team will host Centerville tonight in non conference action. Tonight’s girls’ basketball games vs. Centerville, will be a 9th/Varsity double header starting at 5:30 p.m. There will be no JV game. MPHS is coming off a weekend where they won over Fairfield Friday night and lost at Iowa City Regina Saturday. M.P. is Centerville is 5-8 overall and on a 3 game winning streak. They have lost to Oskaloosa a team the Panthers beat and the Big Red have won over Ft. Madison twice, MPHS owns a single win over them.

Radio Iowa and the Associated Press have released their boys basketball polls for this week
.Mt. Pleasant stays in the A.P. top ten at #10 but dropped out of the Radio Iowa Poll after losing to Centerville last week. Centerville has entered the ranking this week at #10 in the Radio Iowa Poll and 8th in the A.P. top ten. Vinton-Shellsburg is the #1 ranked 3A team in both polls. The Danville Bears are #1 in Class 1A in both polls, Lone Tree is #3 in the A.P. and #4 in the Radio Iowa Poll. Class 4A is topped by Iowa City West. Class 2A has two #1 teams, West Fork is #1 in the Radio Iowa Poll, Nodaway Valley tops the A.P. poll.
Athletic Director at Iowa Wesleyan Mike Hampton has announced that the women’ and men’s basketball game times for the MacMurray games Saturday, January 19 will have the men at 1:00 and women at 3:00.
NFL matchups for the upcoming Sunday of conference championships: San Francisco at Atlanta and Baltimore at New England.
The following schedule changes have been made by Bob Jensen Activities Director at Mt. Pleasant Community High School:
1) The Varsity Girls & Boys Basketball games that were postponed on Dec. 20th with West Liberty have been rescheduled for February 5th at 6:00 p.m. at MPCHS
2) The JV/V girls & boys bowling meet vs Ottumwa that was postponed on December 20th has been rescheduled for January 17th at 2:30 p.m. (same time as originally scheduled).
Due to overwhelming response by drivers and fans, 34 Raceway will once again host a 2 day Car Show at Westland Mall, West Burlington, March 16 and 17.
Thanks to some gracious drivers and sponsors, along with 34 Raceway,
there will be no charge to enter your car in the 34 Raceway/Midwest Performance and Power 2013 Car Show. Although the car show is free to all 34 Raceway drivers, pre-registration to compete at 34 Raceway will be required as it has in the past. Because space is limited to 50 cars pre-registration is urged.
The Whitey’s Bar & Billiards/34 Raceway Kick off Party will be held Saturday night March 16 of the same weekend.
