The sports schedule on the local scene today kicks back in with the MPHS bowling teams traveling to West Central Illinois to begin the 2013 part of their season.
Friday night the MPHS boy’s basketball team will play at Washington KILJ-FM will carry the game live while the girl’s teams of the two schools play in Panther Gymnasium we will give score updates on that action.
Saturday the IWC women host Viterbo at 1 p.m. KILJ-FM will carry the game live, then we will bring you the Central Lee vs MPHS boy’s basketball game from Panther Gymnasium at 4:30 p.m.

Bowl game scores from Tuesday January 1st: Oklahoma State beat Purdue 58-14 in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. Northwestern won the Gator Bowl whent hey defeated Mississippi State 34-20. The Capital One Bowl was won by Georgia 45-31 over Nebraska. South Carolina downed Michigan 33-28 to win the Outback bowl. The Granddaddy bowl of them all the Rose bowl was won by Stanford as they out scored Wisconsin 20-14. Florida State won the Sugar Bowl 31-10 over Northern Illinois. Tonight the Sugar Bowl will be played in New Orleans with Florida tangling with Louisville.

Iowa State defeated Yale yesterday to start out the New Year with a win in men’s basketball. Cyclones rallied to pull out an 80-70 win. Tonight on KILJ-FM the UNI Panthers will host Indiana St. air time is 6:30 p.m. Indiana State is coached by Greg Lansing whose father Dave Lansing used to coach the Mt. Pleasant Panther boys basketball team back in the 1970’s.

Due to lack of practice days prior to playing the first game of the second season, the Mt. Pleasant Middle School has rescheduled the January 10th seventh grade girl’s basketball games and 8th grade boys basketball games to February 4th. All times remain the same.
