The IWC Tigers women’s basketball team won a thriller on Wednesday night against the Clarke University Crusaders. The Tigers picked up the win on the road, defeating the Crusaders 64-60, to improve to 7-13 on the year.
Jana Meister (Jr.-Ashkum, Ill.) connected on a 3 pointer to give the Tigers a 62-60 lead with just 12 seconds left. Michelle Price (Sr.-Frederick, Colo.) had a huge block for the Tigers on the defensive end to stop the Crusaders’ last second attempt to win the game.
Jana Meister and Ashley Kruse led the Tigers with 16 points each, and Kruse had a game-high seven rebounds.
Danielle Des Jardins added 11 points for the Tigers, hitting 4-of-11 from the field.

The IWC men’s basketball team dominated the Clarke University Crusaders on Wednesday night. The Tigers defeated the Crusaders 87-69, improving to 10-12 on the year with the win. The Tigers played a great team game as they had five scorers in double figures.
Kyle Warner (Sr.-Gresham, OR) led the Tigers with 23 points. He also pulled down five rebounds.
Jon Umoren (Sr.-DeKalb, IL) had 17 points, four assists, and two steals, Cam Sanchez (Sr.-Chicago, IL) added 12 points and five rebounds
Joe Evans and Dan Missey (Sr.-Pacific, MO) each added 10 points.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, January 26 when they head to Viterbo University. Tip-off is set for 3:00pm and will follow the women’s game which is slated for a 1:00pm start.

Indian Hills of Ottumwa scored an 82-70 win over the SCC men last night. The #3 ranked Kirkwood College team rolled over the SCC women in Cedar Rapids 72-51.
Texas Tech beat the Iowa State Cyclone men 56-51 in Lubbock, Texas. Top ranked Baylor downed the 24th ranked Iowa State women 66-51.
The Drake University men upset 17th ranked Creighton 74-69.
UNI men downed Southern Illinois 58-45

On the sports scene today, the MPHS wrestlers are hosting Burlington tonight in dual meet action. Mt. Pleasant is coming off a team championship performance at the Williamsburg Tournament last Saturday. This Saturday the Panthers wrestle at the Fairfield Invitational that also serves as the Southeast Conference Tournament.
Other area wrestling: Columbus Community and Highland at West Burlington/Notre Dame/Danville, Keokuk wrestles at Camp Point Central, Lone Tree and Pekin are at Mediapolis, L&M and Wapello wrestle at Cardinal of Eldon, New London/WMU and Van Buren go to Waco to wrestle tonight.

Waukon High School girls’ basketball coach Gene Klinge claimed his career win No. 999 in Tuesday’s 57-44 win over Decorah. Klinge, is attempting to become ninth girls’ basketball coach in the nation to win 1,000 games. His career record is 999-237 in 51 seasons iwc.Klinge’s next chance to win his 1,000th game is on Friday at New Hampton. It’s a 7:30 p.m. start. Coach spent many of his 51 seasons coaching at West Central of Maynard. Despite his coaching accomplishments his biggest accomplishment might have been teaching KILJ’s John Kuhens how to drive in drivers education class and teaching him sophomore biology.
This Friday, Jan. 25th, the Mt. Pleasant Community High School’s girls’ basketball games vs. Ft. Madison will be a freshman game followed by a varsity game starting at 6:15 p.m. There will be no JV game.
Due to Fairfield’s lack of team members, the 9th grade girls’ basketball game vs. Fairfield that had been rescheduled for Jan. 28th, has been cancelled.

The following schedule changes have been made by Bob Jensen Activities Director at Mt. Pleasant Community High School:
1) The Varsity Girls & Boys Basketball games that were postponed on Dec. 20th with West Liberty have been rescheduled for February 5th at 6:00 p.m. at MPCHS

The 21st edition of the Winter Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food & Family Project will official kick off in Dubuque on Saturday, Jan. 26 and Sunday, Jan. 27. The main weekend of the Games will feature 11 sports and over 2,500 athletes.
Youth basketball, fitness walk, youth ice hockey, indoor soccer, martial arts, 5K road race, swimming, table tennis, volleyball, wrestling and a Zumba Fitness(r) class are on the schedule of events.
The Winter Iowa Games offers individuals and teams a chance to be part of an Olympic-style sports festival competing with athletes ranging from three to 80 years old in 23 events.
Athletes still have the opportunity to register on site for the following sports in Dubuque this weekend: fitness walk, martial arts, 5K road race, wrestling and the Zumba Fitness(r) class. Please visit www.iowagames.org for specific dates and times of these events.
The 2013 Winter Iowa Games will take place in 11 communities over a four week period.

Due to overwhelming response by drivers and fans, 34 Raceway will once again host a 2 day Car Show at Westland Mall, West Burlington, March 16 and 17.
Thanks to some gracious drivers and sponsors, along with 34 Raceway,
there will be no charge to enter your car in the 34 Raceway/Midwest Performance and Power 2013 Car Show. Although the car show is free to all 34 Raceway drivers, pre-registration to compete at 34 Raceway will be required as it has in the past. Because space is limited to 50 cars pre-registration is urged.
The Whitey’s Bar & Billiards/34 Raceway Kick off Party will be held Saturday night March 16 of the same weekend.
The 2013 season at 34 Raceway will feature (10) UMP Latemodel Events,
(1) IMCA Latemodel Event (4) 410 Sprint Car Events, (4) 360 Sprint Car Events, (15) 305 Sprint Car Events, (16) IMCA Modified Events, (18) IMCA Sport Mod Events, (22) IMCA Stock Car Events, (24) 4 Cylinder Events, (19) Mod Lite Events with a few special nights to be ironed out. The 2013 racing action will kick off with the first race of the season on Saturday, March 30 with the Doc 360 Sprint Invader Frost Buster & IMCA Modified Special.
