AREA BASKETBALL FROM MONDAY NIGHT: The MPHS Freshman boys basketball team played at Mid Prairie last night and fell 48-43 to the Golden Hawks. High scorer was Kegan Pullis 14, Joe Hess added 10.
Keokuk 46 Mendon Unity of Warsaw, Ill. 41. Van Buren 64 Maharishi 25.

The 9TH ranked 7-2 Mt. Pleasant Panther boy’s basketball team plays host to 7-1 Centerville tonight in Panther Gymnasium. M.P. is ranked 9th in both the Radio Iowa and Associated Press polls. The JV game begins at 5:15 p.m., KILJ-FM will broadcast the varsity game beginning at around 7 p.m.
Centerville’s one loss was to Ft. Madison in the season opener 69-55, that’s a team M.P. beat 58-50. Kolton Gonnerman a 6’1” Jr. leads the Big Red in scoring with 16.4 ppg. Logan Dabney 6’8” SR. is averaging 13 ppg, Mike Starcevich 12.3 and Payton Busch 10.8 ppg. The Mt. Pleasant Panther defense that set a school record by allowing Central Lee only 15 points in Saturday’s win will have a big test tonight, so far this season the M.P. defensive average is 40 ppg. Faith Pope continues to lead the scoring at 16 ppg, Cameron Frank has come on the last two games with his offensive output to become a double figure scorer at just over 10 ppg, along with Ryan Hanna.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association has announced the Class 1A and 2A District Tournament Assignments. In Class 1A, #1 ranked Danville will be in District #9 with Harmony, Holy Trinity Catholic, Keota, Maharishi, New London, Pekin, Van Buren, Waco and WMU. #9 ranked Iowa Mennonite will be in District #7 and #3 ranked Lone Tree is in District #6.
Area Class 2A teams will be in District #11. Central Lee, Columbus Community, Mediapolis, Notre Dame, Wapello and West Burlington.
These Districts will combine with another District to form a Substate of which the winner moves onto the state tournament March 4th thru the 9th in Des Moines.

MPHS wrestlers 10-5 in dual action and coming off a 7th place finish at the Linn-Mar Duals over the weekend will travel to L&M tonight the Falcons are 3-9.

The IWC Tigers had several student-athletes named to the USCAA National All-Academic teams for the Fall of 2012. The Alabama Crimson Tide rolled over the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame by a 42-14 score. It’s the 3rd National Title in four years for Alabama.

The following schedule changes have been made by Bob Jensen Activities Director at Mt. Pleasant Community High School:
1) The Varsity Girls & Boys Basketball games that were postponed on Dec. 20th with West Liberty have been rescheduled for February 5th at 6:00 p.m. at MPCHS
2) The 9th grade girls basketball games with Fairfield have been postponed from Friday, January 11th, to Monday January 28th at 7:00 p.m. at MPCHS
3) The JV/V girls & boys bowling meet vs.Ottumwa that was postponed on December 20th has been rescheduled for January 17th at 2:30 p.m. (same time as originally scheduled).
