Early Morning Fire

A New London couple and their two young children lost most of their personal belongings but escaped injury, when an early morning fire did major damage to their home. Brad Helmerson of the New London fire department told KILJ news that a fire call came in at 4:36 a.m. this morning from Tim and Megan O’Neil who reported their two story home located at 318 S. Elm Street was on fire. The family was awakened by their smoke alarms. The New London fire department was assisted at the scene by one truck and 6 firemen from Mt. Pleasant. Officials believe the fire started in the downstairs but no cause has been determined. Firemen remained on the scene for approximately four hours.
