Jack W. Houston, 82, of rural Milton died at 5:16 P.M. Saturday February 9, 2013 in the emergency room of Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua. He was born July 27, 1930 near Mt. Pleasant to J. Clarence and Pearl Werner Houston and married Violet Pilcher August 26, 1960 in Fairfield.
Jack grew up in Henry County and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School. He farmed, was an auctioneer, had worked at Van Buren County Home, Keosauqua Sale Barn and Barker LTD, all in Keosauqua and for 30 years at Mid States Mfg. Co., Milton. He served in the Iowa Army National Guard, showed cattle at county fairs and loved horses.
Surviving are his wife, a son, James Houston of Milton, two daughters, Wauneta Philips (Daniel) of Birmingham and Ruth Houston of Mt. Pleasant, two granddaughters, Megan and Melanie Philips and a great-grandson, Logan Robertson. His parents preceded him in death.
In accord with Jack’s wishes his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday February 16, 2013 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Visitation with family present will be 1-2 P.M. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial of cremains will be in Lebanon Cemetery. Memorials to the family may be left at the funeral home or mailed to 13222 210th St. Milton, IA 52570. Pedrick Funeral Home is assisting the family.
