There’s a major collegiate wrestling event in Iowa City tonight when 3rd ranked Iowa plays host to #1 ranked and defending national champion Penn State.
The Mt. Pleasant Panther girl’s basketball team defeated West Branch last night in Panther Gym. The Panther varsity girls won 49-42 over the Bears, building up a 20 point second half lead before the visitors put on a furious rally and got back within 5 points, but M.P. held on and won their 11th game of the season. Kelsi Phipps scored 17 points and Taryne Shull added 10.
West branch won the JV game 38-25.
Mt. Pleasant will host Ottumwa Monday.

SEI SUPER CONFERENCE GIRLS BASKETBALL “SHOOTOUT” GAMES ARE TO BE PLAYED TONIGHT
The SEI Super Conference Girls Basketball “Shootout” games will pair the first place team in the North Division against the first place team in the South Division. Also, the second place teams in each division through the tenth place teams will play each other. All games are to be played at the South Division schools. A preliminary game involving the JV teams of each school will be played beginning at 6:00PM with the varsity game to follow 20 minutes after its completion.

The MPHS boys rolled to an impressive 65-38 win over the West Branch Bears. Faith Pope scored 23 points and had 17 rebounds. Ryan Hanna added 18 points, Cameron Frank handed out 7 assists. Mt. Pleasant will next play at Ottumwa Monday.

Saturday is the opening day of the 2013 Sectional wrestling tournaments around the state.
The Class 1A sectional is February 2nd at Marengo Iowa Valley with: North English, Highland, Lone Tree, Iowa City Regina, Waco and West Branch. The two place finishers advance onto the District at Tipton on February 9th.
Class 2A Sectional action will be February 2nd at Mediapolis. Mediapolis has 7 ranked wrestlers: 106- 5th Mason Buster, Mediapolis, 132- 4th Cole Erickson (So.), 138-3rd Drew Foster (Jr.), 145- 5th Drew Buster (Jr.), 152-8thBrad Conley, 170-2nd Adam Drain (Jr.), 182- 3rd Steven Holloway (So.).

The following schedule changes have been made by Bob Jensen Activities Director at Mt. Pleasant Community High School: Activities Director at MPHS Bob Jensen has announced a change for the February 4th Mt. Pleasant vs Ottumwa boys basketball triple header. On Monday, February 4th, Mt. Pleasant’s 9th, JV, and Varsity boys’ basketball teams plays at Ottumwa. The 9th grade and JV games will be played at the same time in separate gyms at Evans Middle School at 5:30 p.m., and the varsity game will follow at the same site at 7:00 p.m. The Varsity Girls & Boys Basketball games that were postponed on Dec. 20th with West Liberty have been rescheduled for February 5th at 6:00 p.m. at MPCHS
Due to overwhelming response by drivers and fans, 34 Raceway will once again host a 2 day Car Show at Westland Mall, West Burlington, March 16 and 17.
Thanks to some gracious drivers and sponsors, along with 34 Raceway,
there will be no charge to enter your car in the 34 Raceway/Midwest Performance and Power 2013 Car Show. Although the car show is free to all 34 Raceway drivers, pre-registration to compete at 34 Raceway will be required as it has in the past. Because space is limited to 50 cars pre-registration is urged.
The Whitey’s Bar & Billiards/34 Raceway Kick off Party will be held Saturday night March 16 of the same weekend.
