Danville the top ranked class 1A boys basketball team played their final game of the season on their home court, and boy did they play. The Bears defeated Van Buren 80-40, Steve Soukup poured in 45 points and his twin brother Michael added 16 as the two seniors played in front of the home crowd for the final time. Van Buren hung with Danville early in the game but a 20 to 0 run in the second quarter put the game away for the 23-0 Bears who will now play in the District Championship at Muscatine against Pekin who beat Keota 52-42.
Van Buren ends the year 14-9 and will have all but one of their players back next year.
Other class 1A scores: Sigourney 86 Twin Cedars 34, Moulton Udell 74 Pleasantville 69.
Class 2A games: Burlington Notre Dame beat Mediapolis 53-51, Pella Christian won over PCM Monroe 40-35. Notre Dame will Play Pella Christian in a 2A substate game Saturday night at Ottumwa with the winner going to state.

The Mt. Pleasant Middle School 7th grade girls hosted Ottumwa Tuesday.

Four Southeastern Community College men’s basketball players have been suspended by the Regional Junior College Basketball commissioner for two games following the brawl that broke out after their double overtime loss at home Saturday night with Indian Hills of Ottumwa. Dontay Jackson, Marlon Cort, Tyrie Orosco and Debonair Edwards will miss the Blackhawks game at Mineral Area, Mo. Tonight and the first post season tournament game next week. This will leave SCC with just 5 players to use during their next two games including Nick Lyon former Mt. pleasant Panther.

UNI men beat Missouri State in basketball last night 69-63, the Panthers are now 17-11 overall and 10-6 in the conference.
The Iowa State Cyclone men play at Baylor tonight KILJ-AM will carry the game live beginning at 7:30 p.m.

C. Vivian Stringer who coaches the Rutgers women’s basketball team will reach a coaching milestone when her team picks their next win, it will be her 900th career win in 42 years of coaching. Stringer spent a number of years coaching at Iowa.

5th ranked Burlington Notre Dame has captured a spot in the 2013 class 1A Girls State Tournament Field. Their first round game will be on Monday February 25th at 1:30 p.m. against 7th ranked Colo Nesco a team that is 23-2, KILJ-AM 1130 and kilj.com will carry the game live. Other qualifiers are: Villisca, Newell Fonda, Bellevue Marquette, Ar-We-Va, Earlham and Central Lyon.
Class 2A State Tournament qualifiers: Pella Christian, Western Christian, Aplington Parkersburg, Panorama, Iowa City Regina, Laton Bronson, Maquoketa Valley and IKM-Manning.
