For the 4th year in a row it’s off to the big show for the Mt. Pleasant Panther boys basketball team, they punched their ticket last night with a 51-33 win over Solon in the substate final at Iowa City West. Don’t let that final margin of victory fool you, it was not an easy win. Solon led at halftime 24-16. The second half was a totally different story. M.P. held the Spartans to 2 points in the third quarter and 7 in the fourth, the panther offense cut loose for 35 points.
Mt. Pleasant is making their fourth straight trip to state and are the defending class 3A state champions. Their first round opponent will be Waverly Shellrock at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday March 5th. Here are the 3A substate scores from last night.

Danville boys basketball team going to state next week. Here is a list of announcements concerning that trip. Today is the last day to purchase t-shirts, tickets for the Monday game will be sold at the school thru Thursday at $8 each. Friday a community meal will be held at Danville High School from 5-7 p.m. to raise funds for the team to go to the state tournament. A pep rally will follow in the H.S. Gym. An official send off will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Danville will be the #1 seed in this year’s Class 1A tournament field and open up the tourney against 8th seeded Wapsie Valley who has a record of 17-8. They are led by 5’11” senior Mitch Boevers who averages 19.3 points per game and has hit 64 of 186 3 point field goal attempts on the year.
Danville has finished second the last two years dropping championship games to Storm Lake St. Mary’s in 2011, they fell to Boyden Hull last year. This year Danville comes in ranked #1 and undefeated at 25-0. Over the last 4 years Danville has won 101 games and lost just 4.
