The Iowa High School Athletic Association has announced the Class 3A District and Substate pairings that involve the Mt. Pleasant Panther boy’s team.
February 18th the Panthers open up at home against Clear Creek Amana, while Ft. Madison will play at Williamsburg that night. The first round winners will meet in the District Championship February 21st at Fairfield, the winner advances to the Substate championship February 25th against the District winner involving Fairfield @ Keokuk 2/18/13, Washington @ Solon, the winners play on 2/21/13 and that winner moves to the Substate championship at Iowa City West unless Keokuk is playing then it will be at Burlington.
The latest boys high school basketball poll has Iowa City West ranked #1 in class 4A, Vinton-Shellsburg #1 in 3A, West Fork #1 in 2A and the Danville Bears #1 in class 1A, with Lone Tree ranked #2.

The MPHS boys basketball team went on the road to Ottumwa Monday night and defeated the Bulldogs 66-35, Ottumwa held a slim 2 point lead at halftime before Mt. Pleasant outscored them 40-9 in the second half. M.P. was led by former Bulldog Faith Pope with 23 points, Logan Mulford had 14, Ryan Hanna added 10. The Panthers tonight host West Liberty with KILJ-FM and broadcasting live.
M.P. won the JV game 54-21, Ottumwa won the freshman game 52-43.

The MPHS girls basketball team defeated Ottumwa Monday night in Panther Gymnasium by a score of 52-48. Kelsi Phipps and Taryne Shull each scored 12 points. M.P. hosts West Liberty tonight KILJ will have all the action live at 6 p.m.

Mediapolis will host the Regional Team dual Meet Championship wrestling matches tonight. #3 ranked Mediapolis will wrestle Williamsburg at 6 p.m. along with Albia wrestling Washington. The winners will then battle to see who advances on to the State Team Dual Meet Championships at Wells Fargo Arena is Des Moines on Wednesday February 13th.

The Mt. Pleasant Middle School 7th grade girls basketball team played host to Keokuk yesterday.

The Iowa Wesleyan College Tigers track & field teams competed at the Cornell College Hilltop Invitational on Saturday. Cienna Strother led the Tiger women as she had set a personal best in the weight throw (10.88m) to move up to #2 all-time at IWC. She also set a season best in the shot put (9.86m).
Jacob Ayers led the Tiger men as he ran 4:52.23 in the mile run. His time was less than 1.5 seconds off his own school record. He then came back and ran the 3k, setting a new personal best by nearly 19 seconds and running 9:54.34 to put him #2 all-time at IWC.

The Iowa State Cyclone men defeated Oklahoma last night in Big 12 basketball 83-64.
Tonight Missouri State is at UNI.

The men’s basketball game between IWC and Lindenwood University-Belleville on Wednesday, Feb. 6 has been canceled.
