Yesterday was signing day for high school football players making their choices of where they will go to college and play football.
At Mt. Pleasant High School offensive lineman Emmitt Wester signed to play at Missouri Western University in St. Joseph, Mo. His older brother Leonard Wester also goes to school there and is a starting offensive tackle.
Tyler Ayers from WACO signed a national letter of intent to play football at Upper Iowa.
Mediapolis has two players off their state runnerup team sign national letters of intent. Jesse Ertz signed to play quarterback at Kansas State and Chase Miller signed on with NCAA Division II Upper Iowa in Fayette to play tight end.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union girl’s regional tournament trail begins tonight.
Class 1A has (1-21) Harmony playing at (7-14) Waco, New London (7-14) plays at WMU (16-5) KILJ-FM and kilj.com will broadcast that game live. Danville (10-10) is at Holy Trinity Catholic (8-13) tonight. #3 ranked Burlington Notre Dame (18-3) has a 1st round bye.

The Class 3A regional team dual meet wrestling took place last night. The 8th ranked Burlington Grayhounds fell to 3rd ranked Bettendorf 61-16. Joining Bettendorf next Wednesday in Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines for the team dual meet championships are: S.E. Polk, Waverly Shellrock, Linn-Mar, Cedar Rapids Prairie, West Des Moines Dowling and Ankeny.

SEI SUPER CONFERENCE BOYS BASKETBALL “SHOOTOUT” GAMES ARE TO BE PLAYED TOMORROW NIGHT.
The SEI Super Conference Boys Basketball “Shootout” games will pair the first place team in the North Division against the first place team in the South Division. The second place teams in each division through the tenth place teams will play each other. All games are to be played on Friday at the North Division schools with the exception of the Danville vs. Lone Tree game which will be played at Mid-Prairie High School in Wellman, KILJ-FM 105.5 and kilj.com will carry that game live. A preliminary game involving the JV teams of each school will be played beginning at 6:00PM with the varsity game to follow 20 minutes after its completion.

In men’s college basketball last night Wisconsin pulled out a 74-70 (2ot) win over Iowa in Madison. Mike Gesell led Iowa with 14 points Aaron White added13.
John Wood Community College defeated the Southeast Community College Blackhawks 74-73, former M.P. Panther Nick Lyon had 3 points.
Illinois State men beat Drake 94-86.
Southeastern Community College women beat Southwestern Community College 69-54.
25th ranked Iowa State women beat Texas 67-48.
