One Panther team did, the other one didn’t. The MPHS boy’s basketball team did win their game at home over Washington 62-36 and in turn the Southeast conference crown. The MPHS girls basketball team didn’t win, they fell at Washington 54-42 and will finish second in the Southeast Conference.

The panther boys held a 37-10 halftime lead and rode the 18 point performance of Cameron Frank to the big win. Faith Pope added 13 points and Logan Mulford 12. Mt. Pleasant is 15-5 and will wrap up the regular season at home Tuesday hosting Marion.

The Panther girls team never could get the lead against Washington trailing 26-22 at halftime, Hannah Becker was the only player to reach double figures for M.P. she hit for 12 points, leadings scorers Kelsi Phipps and Taryne Shull were held to 11 points between them and experienced foul trouble.
Mt. Pleasant ends the regular season with a 13-8 record and will open tournament play Wednesday night hosting Fairfield.

#1 ranked Danville dismantled #2 ranked Lone Tree in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference Super Shootout game at Mid Prairie Friday night beating the Lions 66-41. From start to finish the Bears shot the ball well, played great defense, rebounded well and had very few turnovers. All this made for an easy win in their fourth consecutive cross over game championship. The Soukup twins led the way again, Steve scored 30 and Michael 19 points. The 21-0 Bears now prepare for the post season tournament, they have a first round District bye and will play at home Valentines night against Harmony or New London whoever wins their first round matchup Monday.

Tonight the 2A and 3A teams girl’s basketball teams open up Regional play, Class 3A will have Mediapolis opening at home against West Liberty KILJ-FM 105.5 will carry the game live at 7 p.m. Columbus Community is at Williamsburg. Central Lee will open at home against Centerville.
Class 2A has Wapello at West Burlington and L&M at Durant.

Waco will have one wrestler in the Class 1A District at Tipton today, Cey Saeugling at 160 lbs. was a Sectional champion this past Saturday at Marengo.
New London/Winfield Mt. Union competed in the 2A Sectional at Mediapolis, they had 2 wrestlers advance onto the District this today at West Liberty, Kyle Davis runner up at 220 pounds and Avery Jacobs was the champion at 285 lbs.
Mediapolis rolled to the team championship at the 2A Sectional they hosted with 289 points. They advanced 13 of their 14 wrestlers to the District at West Liberty today.

Mt. Pleasant will host a 3A District today with the following schools competing with the Panthers: Burlington, Ft. Madison, Iowa City City High, Iowa City West, Keokuk, Oskaloosa and Ottumwa. Here is a list of the ranked wrestlers:
