The Mt. Pleasant high School girl’s track team ran at the Central College indoor track meet Saturday and had a successful day. Their next meet is today at the Dickinson Relays at the UNI Dome. The team will then have a week to prepare for the outdoor season at the Iowa City High Invitational on Tuesday, March 26th. Here are Saturday’s place winners:

The MPHS boy’s varsity track meet competed in an indoor meet at Central College in Pella Friday. The best performance was by Emmett Wester who threw the shot 50’ 3” for 1st place.

Mt. Pleasant Panther senior Faith Pope won the slam dunk competition at the Southeast Iowa All Star games played at Burlington Notre Dame Saturday night. The South team won the girls game 61-43 and the boys game 78-67. Cameron Frank of the Panthers also competed in the game.
The Southeast Conference named their all conference boys basketball teams for this past season.

The Iowa Wesleyan College women’s softball team played in a tournament in Kentucky over the weekend, the Tigers lost to West Virginia Tech 9-0 Saturday. Ayla Serrano was the losing pitcher (2-2), she allowed 6 hits, struck out 6 and walked 4. IWC committed 3 errors. Leading the hitting for IWC, Ashley Stube and Ashley Mysliwiec each had singles. The two games scheduled for Sunday were rained out.
Iowa State has made the men’s big dance in basketball, the Iowa Hawkeye men will be in the N.I.T. The Cyclones (22-11) will play Notre Dame (25-9) in the first round of the tournament Friday in Dayton, Ohio against Notre Dame.
Iowa will open up N.I.T. action at home against Indiana State Wednesday night at 6. The Sycamores team is coached by Greg Lansing a former Mt. Pleasant resident whose father Dave Lansing was the head boys basketball coach at Mt. Pleasant High School in the early 70’s. Iowa is (21-12) on the year and Indiana State is (18-14).
The NCAA Wrestling Championships will be held in Des Moines March 21st thru 23rd, Julian Feikert a Keokuk High School graduate who wrestles for Oklahoma State will be in the 141 pound weight class, he was named as an at large selection by the NCAA yesterday and will be one of 33 wrestlers at that weight class. Feikert finished 3rd in the Big 12 conference meet.
Former Columbus Community state champ Matt Mougin a redshirt junior at Northern Illinois will be in the 174 pound weight class he finished 5th in the Mid American Conference Tournament over the weekend.
The Iowa Hawkeyes have 9 wrestlers qualified for the championships and Iowa State has 6 wrestlers qualified. Northern Iowa has 4 qualifiers.

34 Raceway, Burlington, Iowa will kick off the 2013 Racing Season with Racers will taking to the track for a test and tune on Saturday, March 23 with pit gates opening at 12 noon and testing to run from 1 pm – 4 pm. A $15 pit pass will be required but grandstand admission is free and concessions will be open.

April 6 will be the popular Slocum 50 IMCA Late Model Summer Series with $5000 going to the IMCA Late Model winner.
The MOWA 410 Outlaw Sprints will return to the 3/8 mile with a $3000 to win event on Saturday, April 13.
On Saturday, April 20 you won’t want to miss the Cornbelt/UMP late Model Special with ground shaking thunder as they race for the $4000 to win prize.
The regular points races will begin on Saturday, April 27.
