Edward B. Holtkamp, 87, of West Point, Iowa, passed away at 3:40 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Park Place Long Term Care Facility in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.
Born August 1, 1925 in Pilot Grove, Iowa the son of Ben A. and Louise A. (Krueger) Holtkamp. On September 30, 1950 he married Clementine T. “Clemie” Rauenbuehler in West Point, Iowa. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2012.
Survivors include his six daughters Becky (Dennis) Cramer of Blandinsville, Illinois, Mary Lou (Chris) Steffensmeier of Salem, Iowa, Betty Lutz of Houghton, Iowa, Cindy (Joe) Schinstock of Salem, Iowa, Sandy (Tom) Farrell of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Julie Hirschler of Donnellson, Iowa, twenty grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, two brothers Arthur (Darlene) Holtkamp of Harlingen, Texas and Tom (Diane) Holtkamp, of Fort Madison, Iowa two sisters Anita (Ed) Blindt of West Point, Iowa and Geraldine (Don) Conrad of West Point, Iowa, two sisters-in-law Anna Lee Conrad of West Point, Iowa and LaVina (Carl) Hellweg of Houghton, Iowa, two brothers-in-law Carl (Mary Ann) Rauenbuehler of Sterling, Illinois and Melvin (Bertha) Rauenbuehler of West Point, Iowa and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Clemie, one son Richard E. Holtkamp, one grandson Jacob Hirschler, one son-in-law Ray Lutz, one brother and two sisters.
Ed was a member of the St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point. He was a member of the West Point American Legion and the West Point Knights of Columbus. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic School. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Ed was a lifelong farmer raising Hereford cattle and also worked as a crop insurance adjuster.
Friends may call after 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point, Iowa. Where the family will meet with friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 5:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 1, 2013 at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point, Iowa with Father Dennis Hoffman as Celebrant. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in West Point, Iowa. Full military rites will be presented by the West Point American Legion Post #668.
