Yeoland O. Butler, 94, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, March 15, 2013 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.
Friends may call from 12 Noon to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 19th, 2013 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Tuesday evening. A private burial will take place on Wednesday at the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
Mrs. Butler the former Yeoland O. Wellington, was born September 2, 1918 in Mt. Pleasant. She was the daughter of Frank and Elsie (Carpenter) Wellington. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School. She was united in marriage to Ernest Butler in Chicago. Mr. Butler proceeded in death.
Mrs. Butler moved to Chicago shortly after her high school graduation. She worked for Western Union as a telegraph operator. With her husband, she owned and operated a couple of taverns in the Chicago area. Several years after her retirement, she moved to Michigan to be near a nephew. She returned to Mt. Pleasant in 2000 to be near her niece and other relatives.
While living in Chicago, Yeoland and Ernest attended a Baptist church there. During her working years at Western Union, she was a member of the Telegraph Operators Union.
Survivors include a nephew and a niece whom she and Ernest raised – Richard Wellington and his wife Carri of White Pigeon, MI and Marla Wellington Young and her husband William of Mt. Pleasant. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husband, 7 brothers – Syke Wellington, Jim Wellington, Everett “Buck” Wellington, Ralph Richard “Dick” Wellington, Darrell Wellington, Larry Wellington and Glenn Glover and 2 sisters, Doris Bittle and Lucille Williams, precede Yeoland in death.
