The tournament trail has ended for the Iowa State women’s basketball team. In a rematch against Georgia, the Cyclones again fell short in Spokane, Washington in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Final score 65 to 60. The two teams and the coaches squared off in the tournament in 1999 with the Lady Bulldogs winning that battle as well. Leading the scoring for Iowa State was Anna Prins with 23 points. The team was hurt in their efforts when they went more than 11 minutes in the second half adding just one point. They then went on a 19 to 1 run but Georgia proved too tough in the end. Georgia now go on to play either Stanford or Michigan on Saturday.
Tonight, it’s the Iowa Hawkeyes turn in the women’s basketball tournament. In their second round game they are hosting Notre Dame. The number one seed team will prove a worthy foe in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Irish are 32 and 1 this season and are a favorite for many to win the national title. Iowa is a number 9 seed and are 21 and 12 on their season. Game time is 8:30 pm.
The MP JV/V girls track scheduled for at Iowa City High has also been postponed.
The 34 Raceway’s Test-N-Tune originally scheduled for Saturday has been moved to tomorrow. Pit gates open at 5 pm with practice sessions running from 6 to 9 pm.
