Many were hoping for an upset when the Iowa Hawkeye women’s basketball team played Notre Dame at Carver Hawkeye Arena last night but it wasn’t to be with the second-ranked Irish advancing in the NCAA Tournament after defeating Iowa 74-57. Notre Dame was 33 and 1 on the season so it may not come as a surprise that they won but the Hawks did put up a good fight and were led by Kayla McBride with a career-high 28 points. Their season ends at 21 and 13.
Now it’s time for the Iowa men’s basketball team. Tonight they travel to Charlottesville, Virginia tonight for their NIT quarterfinal game. The Cavaliers are 23 and 11 so far this season. Iowa’s record is very similar at 23 and 12. This is the first away game for the Hawks and statistics show that they do not do well on the road with a record of 2 and 8 for away games. Game time is 6 pm.
