After many cancellations, it was a beautiful day for the Mt. Pleasant Boys and Girls Track when they hosted the Mt. Pleasant Co-Ed Relays yesterday. 


1st Places:


4  x 800   10:06.63  -Natalie Ita, Taryne Shull, Natalie Myers, Chloe Haffarnan

4th  Place:

400   meter  run  –  Taryne  Shull   65.73


Good  competition  last night –  many State  Meet  qualifiers and  place winners.  For  this  being  the first outdoor meet for everyone there  were some outstanding times. 

The   4  x  800 relay cut over 7 seconds off its season best  with Chloe anchoring in an outstanding 2:23

Despite hitting  many hurdles the shuttl hurdle time was pretty good,  Amy Buckert  was a last second replacement for Kelsi Phipps who pulled a quad warming up for the long jump Field  events  were once again very strong with Leslie Taylor  going a season best 16-7 in long jump and Mary Wester  and  Elinor Krieger-Coble  both throwing  PR’s  in the shot.  Mary  is now within 4 1/2  inches  of  the 25 year old  record  shot put record.


On the boys side, Emmett Wester won the shot put, Justin Dunn took second.  Wester also won the discuss.  Dunn was third.  Tommy Thorne won the 110 hurdles, Mt. Pleasant won the shuttle hurdle relay.  Cole Phillips, Zach Mulford, Spencer White and Tommy Thorne.  In the high jump, Logan Mulford was second. 

Mt. Pleasant High boys tennis played Davis County at East Lake Park yesterday.  Davis County won 5 to 4.  In singles, winning matches were Chase Higanbotham 8-2 , Zach Schmitz 8-4 and Tyler Pace 8-2.  In doubles, the only winning match was Higginbotham and Schmitz 8-2.  The Varsity record is now 0 and 1.  In JV action for singles: winners were Alex Sandeen 8-5 and Colton Schinstock 8-4.  In doubles, Panthers had one winning team.  That was Matt Thorne and Jared Batty 6-1.


IWC’s baseball for Friday at Illinois College has been moved to Monday, April 1st at noon.

And men’s golf at Knox for the weekend has been cancelled.


SCC’s softball team played Muscatine Community College at home yesterday.  The Blackhawks won the first game 7-6.  The winning pitcher was Cecilia Alvarez.  The second game was suspended due to darkness with the Cardinals leading 5-3.  The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the SCC team.


The Mt. Pleasant Varsity Girls and Boys soccer game against Centerville that was to be played Tuesday at Centerville will be played at East Lake Park in Mt. Pleasant that day.  The girls game begins at 4 pm with the boys game to follow.


The 2013 season for 34 Raceway opens Saturday with the Doc 360 Sprint Invader FrostBuster and Robert’s Tire Center IMCA Modified Special.  Pit gates will open at 4, the grandstands at 5 and hotlaps begin at 6:30.  For updates and weather conditions, visit
