The Iowa Wesleyan College Tigers’ softball team took on Culver-Stockton College in a doubleheader on Tuesday at CSC.  IWC and CSC split the two games, with IWC taking Game 1, 7-5, led by Mikayla Dwyer was 2 for 3 with a solo homer and 2 rbi’s.  The Tigers then fell in Game 2, 2-1. 

IWC is now 6-6.

 

The IWC Tigers’ baseball team went on the road to take on Hannibal-LaGrange University in a doubleheader on Tuesday.  The Tigers dropped both games, losing 19-1 in Game 1 and then falling 3-0 in Game 2.

IWC is now 3-8.

 

The Iowa Hawkeye men open up N.I.T. tournament play tonight at home against Indiana State, with tip off at 6 p.m.  Iowa is 21-12 coming into the game while Indiana State is 18-14.  The last time these two teams met was in 1940 and Iowa won 39-37 in Iowa City.  Greg Lansing coaches the Sycamores, he is a former Mt. Pleasant resident and a former Iowa Hawkeye assistant in the Steve Alford era.

 

The NCAA Wrestling Championships will begin in Des Moines tomorrow and run thru Saturday night. Julian Feikert a Keokuk High School graduate who wrestles for Oklahoma State will be in the 141 pound weight class, he was named as an at large selection by the NCAA and will be one of 33 wrestlers at that weight class. Feikert finished 3rd in the Big 12 conference meet.

Former Columbus Community state champ Matt Mougin a redshirt junior at Northern Illinois will be in the 174 pound weight class he finished 5th in the Mid American Conference Tournament over the weekend.

The Iowa Hawkeyes have 9 wrestlers qualified for the championships and Iowa State has 6 wrestlers qualified.  Northern Iowa has 4 qualifiers.

 

34 Raceway, Burlington, Iowa will kick off the 2013 Racing Season with Racers will taking to the track for a test and tune on Saturday, March 23 with pit gates opening at 12 noon and testing to run from 1 pm – 4 pm. A $15 pit pass will be required but grandstand admission is free and concessions will be open.

 

 

Iowa and Iowa State women’s basketball teams have both been invited to the big dance.  The Iowa State women are a #5 seed and will play Gonzaga in the first round in Spokane, Washington Saturday.  If they win their next game would be against Georgia or Montana.

Iowa is a #9 seed and hosts their first round game at noon Sunday against 8th seeded Miami of Florida.  The winner will play #1 seed Notre Dame vs UT Martin they play in Iowa City at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Former Winfield Mt. Union standout Linda Lappe who now coaches at Colorado has coached her team into the NCAA tourney, the Buffaloes will play  host to Kansas Saturday evening, if they advance they would play South Carolina or South Dakota.

 

 

 

34 Raceway, Burlington, Iowa will kick off the

2013 Racing Season with the 360 Sprint Invaders IMCA Modified Special on Saturday, March 30 where $1000 will go to the winner of the IMCA Modified feature.

April 6 will be the popular Slocum 50 IMCA Late Model Summer Series with $5000 going to the IMCA Late Model winner.

The MOWA 410 Outlaw Sprints will return to the 3/8 mile with a $3000 to win event on Saturday, April 13.

On Saturday, April 20 you won’t want to miss the Cornbelt/UMP late Model Special with ground shaking thunder as they race for the $4000 to win prize.

The regular points races will begin on Saturday, April 27.
