James Harold Horsey, 84, of rural Farmington, Iowa, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Riverside, Iowa.

Born April 27, 1928, in Plano, Texas the son of James Otto and Marie (Carter) Horsey. On September 24, 1961 he married Mary Nell Littleton in Miami, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2001.

Survivors include his two sons Jeff (Diana) Horsey of Farmington, Iowa and John (Yvonne) Wilkins of Fort Madison, Iowa, three daughters Melody (Don) Clifford of Fort Madison, Iowa, Renee (Jake) Blint of Wever, Iowa and Elizabeth Ackerson of Farmington, Iowa, nineteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, one brother Tom (Dixie) Horsey of Salem, Iowa, three sisters Nancy Sue (Mike) Easter of Donnellson, Iowa, Beverly (Bill) Stevens of Farmington, Iowa and Mae (Ed) Conn of Montrose, Iowa, one brother-in-law Dan Littleton of Dunlap, Tennessee, one sister-in-law Nancy Morton of Hamilton, Illinois, two step-brothers-in-law Jim Bauswell of Bettendorf, Iowa and Jack Bauswell of Peru, Illinois, step-mother-in-law Catherine Littleton of Bettendorf, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary, one sister Bonnie and one son-in-law Kevin Ackerson.

Harold was a graduate of Argyle High School and Keokuk Community College. He worked as a senior chemist at Shellor-Globe retiring after thirty seven years of service. He then worked for BASF as a troubleshooter and farmed. He served on and had been chief of the Des Moines Township Fire Department. He was a member of the Coon Hunters Association. Harold enjoyed coon hunting, trapping, fishing, mushroom hunting, gardening, especially growing strawberries and playing cards.

Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. On Monday, April 8, 2013 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson, Iowa. Where the family will meet with friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Donnellson, Iowa with Reverend Bill Willis officiating. Burial will be at the Croton Cemetery, Croton, Iowa.

A memorial has been established in his memory to the Croton Community Center.
