SPORTS APRIL 10, 2013

Mt. Pleasant High School girls golf team hosted Keokuk in Southeast Conference action and won easily as the Chiefs only had 4 golfers start with and then one left early to go to a drivers education class so Keokuk posted no team score.  MP shot a 203.  Haley Booton shot 48, Alle Schliesman 50, Courtney Mabeus 51, Brianne Holtkamp 54, Emilly Cox 54 and Aly Lowe 69. 

 

Mt. Pleasant finished third in the Ft. Madison girls Pen City Relays Tuesday with 82.5 points, Iowa City West won the event with 147.5 points and C.R Jefferson was 2nd with 120.  First place finishers….Mary Wester won the shot put, and the Panther shuttle hurdle relay team won in time of 65.23 breaking the old record 66.15.  Team members are Leslie Taylor, Sidney Taylor, Hannah Becker and Kelsi Phipps.

 

Connor Hogberg of the Danville Bears basketball team has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at William Penn University in Oskaloosa.  Danville just finished a very successful season finishing 27-1 and placing third in class 1A at the state basketball tournament, the Statesmen finished a very successful year also finishing 2nd in the nation at the NAIA national championships.

 

Mt. Pleasant High School has rescheduled the JV/Varsity  girls’ tennis meet that was postponed on March 28th.  It will be played at Burlington Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 22nd.

 

Burlington Bees won at home last night 6-4 against the Quad City River Bandits.  The two teams meet at Community Field again tonight at 6:30 p.m.

 

UConn won the women’s NCAA basketball championship in New Orleans last night with a 93-60 rout of Louisville. 

 

It’s Masters week in professional golf, the world’s top golfers will gather in Augusta, Georgia for the most exciting tournament in golf.  Play begins on Thursday with Tiger Woods ranked #1 in the world the favorite to win.
