Busy week of sports activities for Mt. Pleasant spring sports teams.  The MPHS girls track team will host the Panther Relays for girls at 5 p.m.  Thursday the girls will run at the Washington Relays. 

The Mt. Pleasant boys track team will be running at the Mid Prairie Relays Tuesday, then go to Eddyville for their relay event on Thursday.

The M.P. girls tennis team hosts Keokuk tonight, and Fairfield Thursday night. 

The Panther boys tennis team goes to Keokuk tonight and goes to Fairfield Thursday.

Washington comes to Mt. Pleasant to play the Panther girls golf team tonight.

The M.P. boys golf team goes to Keokuk tonight and will play at Fairfield Thursday.

The MPHS girls soccer team plays at Holy Trinity Catholic Tuesday and Burlington Notre Dame Friday.

The M.P. boys soccer team plays at Ft. Madison tonight and hosts Burlington Thursday.


The Iowa Hawkeye men’s golf team coached by Mark Hankins finished as runner up in a tournament they hosted on the Finkbine course.  Kansas won the title with an 867 score, one stroke ahead of the Hawks.


Zach Johnson former Drake University golfer and now a PGA star finished 35th in the Masters Golf Tournament shooting a 291.  The Australian to ever win the Masters is Adam Scott who won in a playoff Sunday to capture the $1.4 first prize.


The Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) made a stop  at 34 Raceway Saturday night April 13 with twenty-four 410 sprint cars trying for the $3000 to win check. Ian Madsen, Knoxville, Iowa, held off a hard charge by Terry McCarl to take the checkered flag in the 30 lap feature event.   Also taking home a trophy and winner’s check were Jason Cook, Mt. Pleasant (IMCA Stock Cars),  Chase Flatt, Monmouth, Il (Mod Lites), and Skip Dunker (4 Cylinders). Making their first of four stops at 34 Raceway were the Midwest Performance and Power Pit Bikes and Quad Racers with a over 50 taking to the special made pit bike and quad track. Jody Steward, Burlington, took the checkered flag  in the pit bike feature and did Tanner, Gipple,  New London, won the quad feature.


The Burlington Bees dropped their game to Beloit Sunday 8-3.  Bees play in Peoria tonight.



The MS Boy’s Don Taft Relays scheduled for last Friday night have been postponed, and will be run this Friday, April 19th at 4:30 p.m.

Mt. Pleasant High School has rescheduled the JV/Varsity girls’ tennis meet that was postponed on March 28th.  It will be played at Burlington Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 22nd.

The Boys Tennis vs. Ft. Madison at MP that was postponed on March 25th due to bad weather has been rescheduled for April 19th at 4:30 p.m.

The boys tennis match that was scheduled for April 30th vs Keokuk at MP has been moved to April 29th at MP at 4:30 p.m.

The start time for the girl’s track meet at Washington on Thursday, April 18th, has been changed to 4:15 p.m., instead of 5:00 p.m.

The school has added a boys’ tennis meet.  Mt. Pleasant will play at Burlington Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on April 25th.

Mt. Pleasant will be playing V/JV boys’ soccer at 5:00 p.m. at Danville on May 16th instead of April 23rd. Please note the start time



The IWC Student Relay For Life event will be held on Sunday, April 21st at the IWC campus from 5 – 11pm.  Please help support the students in their first Relay For Life.  All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.
