MPHS girls track team won the Falcon Relays at West Burlington Saturday with 214 points.  Leslie Taylor won the 100 meter dash, 100 meter hurdles and long jump.  Mary Wester won the discus and shot put.

The MPHS boy’s track team won their division of the Falcon relays also with 137 points.  Individual winners were Justin Dunn in the shot put and Emmett Wester the discus.


The IWC softball team competed in the Grinnell Tournament over the weekend finishing in 3rd place with a 2-2 record.  Saturday they defeated  Grinnell 21 to 1 in the their first game, that was a milestone win for coach Mike Hampton as it was his 1200th victory in 49 years of coaching softball at the high school and college level.   Game 2 Lost to Westminister 5-4 in 8 innings, Game 3 Sunday they Lost to Wisconsin Oshkosh 4-0

The Tigers then defeated Grinnell College 9-1 in the tournament’s Consolation Game. 

IWC’s Tory Beaver and Ashley Stube were named to the All-Tournament Team.


The Iowa Wesleyan College track teams competed at the Ashford University Spring Classic on Saturday, April 6.  The IWC men’s team finished 9th out of 9 teams with 15 points.  Drake University won with 165 points.  The IWC women did not record a team score. 

The Tigers track & field team recorded 19 personal bests on the day and added 6 season bests as well. 

Raul Becerril finished 6th in the 200m dash by running a new personal best of 22.49.

The Tigers’ men’s 4×100-meter relay team was 5th out of collegiate teams in 3:30.73.  That time ranks the team 3rd in school history. 

Jaimee Crosby led the women’s team with new personal bests in the 400-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.  Crosby clocked in at 1:08.99 in the 400m and then blazed to the line in 30.03 in the 200m.


The Burlington Bees won 5-0 Sunday over the Clinton Lumber Kings at Community Field, tonight the Bees host the Quad Cities for a 6:30 game.


The men’s NCAA basketball championship will be played tonight in Atlanta.  The Michigan Wolverines will tangle with the Louisville Cardinals at 8 p.m.  The game may be viewed on the big screen at the Main Street Cinema in Mt. Pleasant, no admission charge and the concession stand will be open.

The women’s championship will be played tomorrow night in Nashville with Louisville battling U-Conn.


The feature winners at 34 Raceway in Burlington Saturday were:  Denny Eckrich of Tiffin in the IMCA Late Models, Chris Larson of Keokuk won the IMCA Sports Mods and Nicholas Van Hemurt of Drakesville won the 4 cylinders.

Jimmie Johnson won the STP Gas Booster 500 Sunday at Martinsville speedway in Virginia, Johnson led 346 of the 500 laps to dominate the race.


It’s Masters week in professional golf, the world’s top golfers will gather in Augusta, Georgia for the most exciting tournament in golf.  Play begins on Thursday with Tiger Woods ranked #1 in the world the favorite to win.
