The Mt. Pleasant City Council met in regular session last night…..
The council approved an easement document with Two Rivers Bank. This will allow both entities to work together to solve a storm sewer problem. The city is replacing the alley west of Two Rivers and the bank is replacing the parking lot and drive-up lanes. The council also approved the bid for the alley project. Four bids were received. And according to the engineer all four were good bids. The council voted to take the low bid of $97,491 from Fye Excavating. The engineer’s estimate was $125,000.
After approving a change order, the council signed off on the airport terminal renovation project. The change order added $900 to the project that is now complete…except for furnishings. The city administrator informed the council that furniture will arrive in 4 to 6 weeks from HON and….it is being donated thanks to Stan Askren. Askren uses the airport and is the CEO of HNI, HON’s parent company.
The mayor was given permission to sign a contract to continue city employee health insurance coverage with Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and life insurance with Lincoln Financial group. City Adm. Brent Schliesman said there was a 12% decrease in the premium.
The Council approved an agreement with Aviation Blvd LLC that would allow the business to hook into the city sanitary sewer system. This is the winery that is opening at the intersection of 225th Street and South Iris. This is at no cost to the city. The sewer rate will be twice that for city customers since the property is located outside the city limits.
The council approved the appointment of Patrick Fox to the fire fighter reserve force on the recommendation of the fire chief.
