Doris Deck

Doris M. Deck, 83 of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa died Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.
A funeral service for Doris Deck will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Chaplain Mary Arnold of Hospice Compassus will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant. A luncheon will follow the burial for family and friends at the Veterans Club, 103 North Jackson Street, Mount Pleasant. Visitation will be Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the Kimzey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4:00 -7:00 PM.

Mrs. Deck, the former Doris Mae Lee, was born March 8, 1930 on a family farm northeast of New London. She was the daughter of Melvin Clark and Doris Mae (Philpott) Lee. She moved with her family to a farm northeast of Mt. Pleasant where she attended the Sherman Country School and the Beulah Methodist Church. She moved with her family at age 10 to New London where she completed her education. On February 16, 1946 in Trenton, IA, Doris was united in marriage to Carlton Deforest Deck. Mr. Deck died Wednesday, January 29, 1992 at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.
From 1965 until her retirement in 1992, Mrs. Deck was a production operator at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. She was a member of the American Legion Bob Tribby Post #58 Auxiliary, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2561 Auxiliary, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Chapter 4. She served in numerous capacities and held several offices in each of the organizations. With her husband, Mrs. Deck was one of the original organizers of the Avenue of Flags Veterans Memorial. She was of the Methodist faith. Doris enjoyed collecting and maintaining her collection of dolls, turtles and music recordings, of which country western was her favorite.
Those thankful for sharing in Doris’ life include 2 sons and their wives – Richard C. and Marlene (Martin) Deck of Sugar Grove, IL and Ronald M. and Joyce (Seberg) Deck of Moberly, MO; a step brother – Robert McDonald of Biloxi, MS; 4 grandchildren – Patrick R. Deck and his wife Tracey of Victoria, MN, Danielle E. Deck of Aurora, IL, Ronell L Carr and her husband Brant of Ankeny, IA and Angela L. Wright and her husband James of Omaha, NE; 6 great grandchildren – Grace, Griffin and Caroline Deck and McKenna, Brady and Natalie Carr, extended family and friends, especially 3 very dear friends – Judy Kinney, Donna Wise and David Wilson.
Her husband, parents, step father William McDonald, 2 brothers – Dwight and Donald Lee, a half brother – Pearl Lee, a step brother – John McDonald, a sister – Virginia Brown and 2 half sisters – Goldie Ochiltree and Jessie Gill precede Doris in death.
