Merlin E. Finke, age 86 of Crawfordsville died Wednesday May 15, 2013 at his home in Crawfordsville. The son of Silas and Velta (Beauchamp) Finke, he was born December 10, 1926 at Washington. On February 24, 1946 he married Frieda Rees at Crawfordsville. He was a graduate of the Wyman High School. He was a lifelong farmer and was a Pioneer Seed Dealer for 27 years. He was a member of the United Church of Crawfordsville, had been a member of the Louisa County Farm Bureau and ASC and was a former member of the Crawfordsville Lions Club. He was an avid Cardinal and Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed following his children and grandchildren’s sports activities.
Survivors include: his wife Frieda of Crawfordsville; one daughter, Barb and Phil Deats of Clive; one son, Bill and Cindy Finke of Winfield; a daughter in law, Cheryl Stagner of Mt. Union; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; one sister, Madonna and Larry Jack of Carlisle;
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Bob, and two brothers Silas and Clyde.
Friends may call on Friday from 2-7:00 p.m. at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield.
The casket will be closed according to his wishes. Interment will be prior to the service at the Cambrian Cemetery, rural Columbus Junction.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Crawfordsville, with Rev. Jason Collier and Larry Fletcher officiating.
Memorials have been established for the Crawfordsville First Responders and the United Church of Crawfordsville.
