Robert M. “Keppy” Kephart, 64, of Mt. Pleasant died Saturday, May 11, 2013 at his residence.
A memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 607 N. Jackson Street, Mt. Pleasant. Father Joseph Phung will celebrate the mass. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at church on Wednesday. Bob requested that his body be donated to the University of Iowa Anatomy Dept. Robert Marion Kephart was born June 3, 1948 in Mt. Pleasant. He was the son of Rodney E. and Mary Jo (nee Bogie) Kephart. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1966. On April 4, 1971 in Las Vegas, NV, Bob was united in marriage to Judith Ann Housh.
Bob entered the United States Air Force in September of 1966. He served in corrosion control at the airbase in Maguire, New Jersey. He was honorably discharged in 1971. After his marriage, he made his home in Newton, IA, where he was the assistant manager of the Hy-Vee Food Store in Newton. He returned to Mt. Pleasant in 1977 where he accepted a position as the Assistant Director of Public Works for the city of Mt. Pleasant. He later became the Director of the Public Works Department. He retired in 2011.
Bob was the owner and operator of Keppy’s Stripping and Refinishing, a wood restoration business. Bob was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He computerized all of the records for St. Alphonsus Cemetery and had stripped and refinished the pews in the old church edifice. He was a partner in RBR Recreation, a camping area on the Skunk River, where he loved to camp and fish. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge in Mt. Pleasant.
Those thankful for sharing in Bob’s life include his wife Judi of Mt. Pleasant.; 2 daughters – Jennifer Kerr Kohorst and Heather (Nick) Ridenour, all of Mt. Pleasant; his mother, Mary Jo Schenk of Rockton, IL; 5 grandchildren – Kieran, Keegan and Kellen Kohorst and Shelby and Lane Ridenour, all of Mt. Pleasant; 4 brothers – Raymond Schenk of Stafford, TX and Ricky, Michael and Terry Schenk, all of Rockton, IL, and 2 sisters – Carol Kephart of Donnellson, IA and Sandy (Mike) Cofoid of Rockton, IL.
His father and a son in law, Keith Kohorst, precede Bob in death.
