8th ranked Davenport Assumption handed the Mt. Pleasant High School baseball team two losses in baseball Tuesday night.  The Knights defeated the Panthers 5-4 in the first game.  Connor Shull was the losing pitcher, Dustin Amos led the hitting with a double.  M.P. committed 3 errors.

In the nightcap Assumption won 11-4, six errors plagued Mt. Pleassant, Justin Dilks had a 3 run homer and a 1 run single to have all four RBI’s.  Dustin Amos suffered the loss on the mound.

Saturday Mt. Pleasant goes to the Waterloo tournament to play two games, opening againsty Denver in the first round.

OTHER AREA SCORES:  Burlington split with Ft. Madison, Grayhounds won the opener 5-1-Bloodhounds won the nightcap 5-4.  WMU/WACO won over L&M 6-5, Mediapolis blanked Highland 7-0, Wapello over Pekin 5-3.


AREA SOFTBALL SCORES:  Cardinal 13 Danville 1, Central Lee 5 new London 4, Wapello 10 Pekin 1, Highland beat Mediapolis 7-2, Van Buren blaned Harmony 14-0, Columbus Community 8 Lone Tree 1, WMU beat L&M 10-5.


The Class 2A substate boys soccer tournament got underway last night.  The Mt. Pleasant Panthers had a first round bye and will host a substate match tonight at 5 p.m. against Fairfield who won their opening round match 5-0 over Keokuk. The other semi final has #7 ranked Solon playing Washington who was a 4-1 winner in their opening match. The winners move to the championship match at Solon on May 25th.

Mt. Pleasant High School is sending their girls golf team to state!  The Panthers finished 2nd in the class 4A Regional Tournament played at Oskaloosa Monday.  Cedar Rapids Xavier was champion shooting 346, M.P. shot a 387, 4 strokes ahead of Washington.  Brianne Holtkamp led the Panther scoring with a 94 Emily Cox 97, Courtney Mabeus 98, Elle Schliesman 98.  Haley Booton added a 102 and Whitney Barton 136.  The State Tournament will be played May 28th and 29th at the Ames Golf and Country Club.

New London girls golf team also qualified for state finishing 2nd in the Class 1A Regional at Wapsi Oaks Country Club in Calamus.  The Tigers shot 392 for 2nd, Valley High School shot a 371 to place first.  The Valley Tigers are coached by Robin Madole who grew up in Mt. Pleasant, this is the last year for that school to exist, they merge with North Fayette West Union next year.

Leading New London to state were:  Baylee Lindell 96, Emma Pry 97, Victoria Noel 99, Jorgie Krieger 100, Morgan Oliver 108 and Breanna Stevens 109.

The State meet for Class 1A is played at Marshalltown’s American Legiona Course May 28th and 29th.

Grace Edwards of Winfield Mt. Union advances onto the State Meet also in medalist play after s91 in the Regional to be 5th in medalist action.

Central Lee’s Alex Krehbiel was medalist at the Class 3A Regional golf tournament at Columbus Jct.  shooting an 85, Kensley Heater of Mediapolis was 4th and will advance to State May 28th and 29th at Ames along with Krehbiel.



The 9th grade baseball double header scheduled for Saturday, May 25th, vs. Iowa City West High School, will be played at Mt. Pleasant, not Iowa City, starting at 9:00 a.m.

Coming up this weekend will be 2 big nights of racing action at 34 Raceway in West Burl;ington. Saturday, May 25 will be  KILJ Radio Night. The W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprints return this week along with the Coors Silver Bullet IMCA Modifieds, Weikert Iron and Metal Sport Mods, Pepsi Stock Cars and I Connect You-Louisa Communications 4 Cylinders.  Then come back Sunday night, May 26 when the Brockway Mechanical Sprint Invaders return to 34 Raceway. Also racing Sunday will be the I Connect You-Louisa Communcations 4 Cylinders, Mod Lites and Vintage cars.  Clear your calendar for Friday, June 7 when the World of Outlaw Sprints return to 34 Raceway as they take on the 3/8 mile banked oval.
