New London is in the hunt for a class 1A boy’s state golf championship after the first day of play at the Lake Panorama National Resort in Panora.  Sibley Ocheyeden leads the field with a 344, New London is 3 strokes back at 347, Winfield Mt. Union is 5th they shot a 372.  Tristan kadel shot an 83 for New London and is one stroke behind in medalist play.  A golfer from Dunkerton leads with an 82.  Other Tiger scores:  Kyler Myer 88, Quincy Porter 88, Hagin Gillis 88, Jayden Flowers 102 and Tony Schneider 112.

For Winfield Mt. Union Brody Heying, Klayton Booth, Jake Edwards all shot 91’s, Kolt Rossiter 100 and Sam Jennings 122.

In class 2A State Golf action at Livermore, Kaci Broeg of Notre Dame-West Burlington is tied for 32nd in medalist play shooting an 86.  Zac Howell of Columbus Community is tied for 37th with an opening 89.

Play concludes in the tournaments today weather permitting.

 

Ottumwa swept the Mt. Pleasant Panther girls softball team last night 12-0 and 17-0 in games played on Maple Leaf Field.

The Mt. Pleasant Panther boys soccer (12-3) team has advanced to the Class 2A Soccer Substate.  They now will advance onto the Championship match today at Solon against the 6th ranked Spartans (13-2).

Class 1A Substate Holy Trinity Catholic Crusaders will now host the Substate Championship in West Point today, they will battle West Liberty.

 

Today the Mt. Pleasant baseball team  goes to the Waterloo tournament to play two games, opening against Denver in the first round.

 

The 9th grade baseball double header scheduled for Saturday, May 25th, vs. Iowa City West High School, will be played at Mt. Pleasant, not Iowa City, starting at 9:00 a.m.

 

Coming up this weekend will be 2 big nights of racing action at 34 Raceway in West Burl;ington. Tonight is KILJ Radio Night. The W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprints return this week along with the Coors Silver Bullet IMCA Modifieds, Weikert Iron and Metal Sport Mods, Pepsi Stock Cars and I Connect You-Louisa Communications 4 Cylinders.  Then come back Sunday night, May 26 when the Brockway Mechanical Sprint Invaders return to 34 Raceway. Also racing Sunday will be the I Connect You-Louisa Communcations 4 Cylinders, Mod Lites and Vintage cars.  Clear your calendar for Friday, June 7 when the World of Outlaw Sprints return to 34 Raceway as they take on the 3/8 mile banked oval.
