The MPHS girl’s golf team is in 7th place in the team standings after the first day of action at the Class 4A State Golf Meet at the Ames Country Club shooting a 395, team leader is Charles City with a 330 score.  Individual scores for M.P. over the par 73 course:  Emily Cox 87, Courtney Mabeus 96, Brianne Holtkamp 98, Haley Booton 114, Elle Schliesman 119 and Whitney Barton 138.

Medalist is Jessie Sindlinger of Charles City with an 8 under par 65.

Class 3A medalist play, Alex Krebiehl of Central Lee is 13th with a 16 over par 89 score, leader is Paige Van Dyk of South Tama with a 1 under 72.

Kensley Heater is 33rd in medalist play with a plus 28 101.

Class 1A State Girls Golf action is being played in Marshalltown at the American Legion Course,  in the team race Grundy Center leads with a 357.  New London is 5th with a 387.  Individual scores for the Tigers:  Emma Pry 90, Jorgi Krieger 93, Baylee Lindell 101, Morgan Oliver 103, Victoria Noel 108,and Breanna Stevens 114.  Grace Edwards of WMU shot a 108 in Medalist play, Alexia Capesius of Algona Bishop Garrigan shot an 8 over 79.

 

The Burlington Grayhounds raced to a 9-1 victory over the Mt. Pleasant High School girls soccer team in the 2A Regional semi finals played at East Lake Park.

The win puts Burlington in the Regional Finals at Eldridge June 3rd against the host school North Scott who beat Davenport West 8-0.

Mt. Pleasant who ends the year 12-6, scored their lone goal with 15 minutes to go in the 1st half on a free kick by Kathryn Chabal.  Burlington was led by freshman Elyse Huber who scored 5 goals.

 

For the first time since 1995 the Mt. Pleasant Panther boys high school soccer team will be appearing in the State Soccer Championships played this Thursday thru Saturday at the Cownie Soccer Park in Des Moines.  Mt. Pleasant qualified for state on a rainy cool Saturday afternoon beating Solon 1-0 on their home all weather pitch.  Bo Vitale scored the goal with 3 minutes left in the 1st half and Michael Alderson kept turning away Spartan shots all through the second half as he recorded a shutout in goal and helped lead his teams defensive effort that got them to state.  M.P. ranked 14th with a 13-3 record will play 6th ranked Storm Lake at 2:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon on field #7.  The rest of the field will be Cedar Rapids Xavier, Dubuque Wahlert, Pella, Norwalk, Waverly Shellrock and ADM Adel.

Holy Trinity Catholic was denied a trip to the Class 1A Soccer Championships as they lost to West Liberty 2-1 in West Point Saturday.  Joining West Liberty in the 1A field:  Dyersville Beckman, Des Moines Christian, MOC-Floyd Valley, Iowa City Regina, Riverside Oakland.

 

 

Once again Mother Nature chose not to be kind to 34 Raceway this past weekend forcing cancellation of both Saturday and Sunday Nights racing action on the double header weekend. The Brockway Mechanical Sprint Invaders races schedule for Sunday, May 26 have been postponed to July 3.

This Saturday will be Louisa Communications and Perfect Metals Night at the races. The UMP Super Late Models will return along with the W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprints, Coors Silver Bullet IMCA Modifieds, Pepsi IMCA Stock Cars, I Connect You/Louisa Communications
