For the first time in school history Mt. Pleasant High School moved into the top 15 ranked girls soccer teams in the state of Iowa Thursday, then suffered their first defeat of the season 5-0 to Burlington on the Grayhounds home field.  Mt. Pleasant could manage only 1 shot on goal, while Burlington put up 19.  MPHS is now 8-1 on the season and ranked 15th in the 2A class which is topped by #1 ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier.

 

The Mt. Pleasant high School boys soccer team rolled to a 7-0 win over Ft. Madison at East Lake Park.  Bo Vitale scored 4 goals, Zoom Gwamna had 2 and Liam Clancy added the final score.  Michael Alderson was in goal for the Panthers to record the shutout, his 4th of the season.  M.P. is 5-1 in the Southeast conference and 7-2 overall.

 

Winfield Mt. Union won the Northern Division Title in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference boys golf tournament championship played at the Shaeffer Course in Ft. Madison. The Wolves shot a 331 led by Jake Edwards who was medalist with a 75.  Columbus finished 2nd 344, Wapello 3rd 357, then came Mediapolis 375, L&M 380, Lone Tree 450, IMS 456.

 

Notre Dame-West Burlington won the Southern Division Super Conference golf title shooting 346, New London was 2nd at 353, then came Central Lee 359, Maharishi 368, Holy Trinity Catholic 374, Van Buren 376 and Danville 419.  Nick Pundt of Central Lee was medalist shooting 75.

 

There were several cancellations of Mt. Pleasant Middle School and High School sports activities yesterday:

1) MS Girls’ track at Ottumwa cancelled – will not be rescheduled

2) JV/V Boys’ Tennis at Davis Co. cancelled – will not be rescheduled

3) Varsity Boys’ Golf Tournament at Oskaloosa cancelled – will not be rescheduled

4) Varsity Girls Golf Tournament at Ottumwa  cancelled- will not be rescheduled

5) The Mt. Pleasant girls’ tennis match at Ft. Madison was cancelled and will not be rescheduled..

 

Coming up this week at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, IA will be Midwest Performance and Coor’s Light Night at the races. The Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, Donnellson Tire IMCA Stock Cars, Shottenkirk Parts Express IMCA SportMods, Coor’s Light IMCA Hobby Stocks and Sunline Auto Parts IMCA Sport Compacts will continue their battle for points.

Gates next week will open at 5:30 pm, hot laps at 7:00 pm, and racing at 7:30 pm. Grandstand admission will be adults $10, seniors $, students 7-17 $5, and kids 6 & under FREE! Pit passes will be $25, with ages 7-13 being $15, and ages 6 & under $10

 

Rain forced cancellation of the April 27 races at 34 Raceway BURLINGTON, IA – With 105 cars signed into the pit area on Flecks Sales Night at 34 Raceway, Saturday, April 27th Mother Nature eventually got the best of em!  A light rain began when the pit gate opened and just wouldn’t seem to quit .  34 Raceway officials were forced to postpone the night’s racings events until next week.

Coming up Saturday, May 4 will be Late Models, 305 Sprints, Modifieds, Stock Cars, Sport Mods and 4 Cylinders in action. Tickets  from Saturday, April 27 will be honored May 4th only.  Pit gates open at 4:30, grandstands 5:00 and racing at 7 p.m.

 

You will be falling off your seat laughing at the Morning Sun PTO’s Donkey Basketball game coming to the Morning Sun Elementary gym on Sunday, May 5.

Teams from Morning Sun, Mediapolis, Winfield and Wapello  will be competing for the Championship game.

The game is a fundraiser for the Morning Sun PTO’s new playground project.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $6.00 or at the door for $8.00. Preschool kids are free.
