At Wednesday night’s Mt. Pleasant City Council meeting Terry McWilliams announced he will seek re-election to his at-large seat on the council. In other business from the regular meeting…The council approved a 2 1/2% increase in wages for city employees for the next fiscal year as well as for the police department union employees. Also the volunteer fire fighters will receive a 2 1/2% stipend increase. The council received an application from H.C. Customs at 313 North Lee Street for a rezone from R2 Single and Two Family Residential to M2 Light Industrial. Per the city process, the application will be sent to the Planning and Zoning Commission for review and a recommendation that goes back to the council. The Mayor’s recommendation to re-appoint Amy Decker and Denny White each to another three year term on the Park and Recreation Advisory Board was approved. The National Wild Turkey Federation was given permission to use Wright Family Pavilion for a fundraiser June 20. The request was for use from 5:30 pm to 10 pm and for permission to have beer available. The council gave Jessica Gillespie permission to enclose the front steps and ramp at her home at 301 N. Jackson Street. City approval was needed because the steps and ramp are in the city right of way.
